Looking at the lastest Carnegie classifications, 39% of Historically Black Colleges and Universities hold a research classification (R1, R2 or Research College & University). In contrast, only 14% of non-HBCUs hold a research classification.

Just saying.

Instead of saying "I didn't understand the halftime show, therefore it is bad art" maybe try and understand why you didn't get it and think critically about the presentation, symbolism, etc. This is part of the beauty of art and creativity.

If you are an NSF PI or administrator at an organization with NSF awards, check the webpage “Implementation of Executive Orders” daily. That is the only communication right now we can expect from NSF.
Here are some highlights:
- NSF is resuming panel reviews as of February 10

No more martyrs, Kendrick Lamar seemed to say. Resistance to Trump is an “all of us” project. Dave Zirin looks at the brilliant, cooperative political art that was the Super Bowl halftime show.
How the “Subversive Genius” of Kendrick Lamar Sent Trump Home a Loser
The Philadelphia Eagles and Kendrick Lamar’s collective of geniuses made this the Super Bowl we needed.

NSF PIs: From the NSF website: "NSF can not take action to delay or stop payment for active awards based solely on actual or potential non-compliance with the Executive Orders".

While all awards are currently under review, keep doing what you have been doing, unless possibly told otherwise later.

HBCUs are shelters in a time of storm. Dr Jelani Favors
HBCUs are domes of security for Black students. Dr Michael Watson
HBCUs are places where students don’t have to cater to white perceptions, & not have every interaction colored by the warping force field of white supremacy. @NegroSubversive

I really believe that the likes of M**k and them want to wipe out a significant portion of the Earth's population. Fewer people means that they can amass even more of the limited resources.
Trump/Musk shutting down USAID puts us all at greater risk.

Keep pushing, keep bringing lawsuits, keep making noise. It works!

NSF director just announced that all NSF funding, including mine, is back online (at least for now).

Dear NSF PIs, draw down on your funds and continue your work. If anyone asks, you are teachers, mentors, researchers, not people doing "DEIA" work. So keep doing the good work in these insane times. I work to support HBCU faculty. That's my job, not DEIA. I'll continue to do it.
Just received this email (received 3:25 pm ET), from the NSF director, informing that DOJ has interpreted the temporary restraining order on the funding freeze as applying to “all NSF award recipients.”

Again, I’ll shout it from the rooftops: lawsuits matter!!!!

Please enjoy my portraiture of a great physicist, my friend and PhD advisor Dr. Warren W. Buck. The Journal of STEM Leadership, created by my bestie Dr. Kelly Mack at #AAC&U, is a rare journal with open access. www.casl-jslbp.net/article/9130...

Democratic lawmakers need to understand something:

Imagine your house is on fire. Fire truck shows up. Firefighters get out. They look at the fire, then at you, and say: "Such a fire is a grave threat. This house will not sustain."

And just stand there.

This is how many of you are coming across.

Absolutely batshit you can watch on live TV a rotting whale eating, bear corpse vandalizing, brainworm eaten, anti-science sex pest who drove an ex wife to suicide & looks exactly like corrupted Leland Palmer from Twin Peaks & sounds like Megatron auditioning to be head of America’s healthcare.

Every single report on the Trump funding freeze — every report on Medicare portal, Head Start, homeless veterans programs — needs to mention immediately WHY. The freeze is in order to complete an ideological purge of so-called “woke” programming. This is IMPORTANT, y’all.

Don't even think of contacting your program officers right now. They know as much as you do and they hurt as much as you do. They are not allowed to talk right now. Don't jeopardize them. Call your elected officials to do something and your university leadership to speak up.

Don't blame agency heads at NSF, NIH, etc for the language they have to use in their directives to employees. They are political appointees and can get fired. Imagine who would replace them, if they resigned or didn't comply. They, like us, are looking for Congress to do something.
