"Time for tap" across the board with Halifax Transit I say. Even buying e-tickets and then tapping those feels like a lot.
Another beautiful September Halifax morning, another day watching visitors to our city trying to figure out to pay for the ferry by taking out cash from a private ATM, turning it into different cash, and feeding it into a little box. @samaustind5.bsky.social @tonymancini2025.bsky.social time for tap

New book sheds light on WWII harbour tragedy kept under official cloak of secrecy
A new book is shedding light on the mystery of a Second World War marine tragedy that was kept under a cloak of secrecy despite decimating the ranks of Halifax’s harbour pilots.

Since it's clear I'm going to need to put in extra work to cleanse the current timeline, how about Diego Rivera's horny radishes? Rivera painted this quasi-Surrealist scene of radishes in erotic poses—"The Temptations of Saint Anthony"—in 1947, inspired by an annual Oaxacan radish-carving festival

I'm excited to share that today is the official publication date for my new book, Van Gogh and the End of Nature, from Yale University Press, which more firmly grounds Van Gogh within the industrial era in which he lived & worked (thread)

Don't be this guy 📖
i’d sure hate to be the guy who ordered hundreds of coursebooks only for the faculty who ordered them to get locked out 2 weeks from class

Foreground: I’ve absolutely no problem w decision to ban woodland activities.

BUT: Without car in Halifax, have to walk through/in woods to get to ill-placed bus stops. I have a woodland path to my bus stop, 10 mins. Or, walk way round on busy road with no crossings -29 mins.

This explains everything... who built a bronze model of Halifax, and where is it? #HaliSky
I don't know why the council spent money on a bronze model of the town for the promenade. Don't they know anything about sympathetic magic? About the correspondence between macrocosm and microcosm? What happens if a seagull shits on it? They'd be terrible consequences – Rowena Weaver, 1982 #VOH

“Their size, weight, and high bonnets increase risks to pedestrians and cyclists, reduce parking space availability, and cause more road damage...”
That’s one hell of an article title. And one hell of an image in the article.

“Call to drop Range Rover sponsorship of Wimbledon as SUVs 82% more likely to kill children.”

Good idea.

My 94 year old father just paid $1500+ for a pair of glasses at a local place. I’m quite angry at them, it’s robbery of an old fellow with zero capacity to fight them off.
Optometrists who also dispense eyewear should not be allowed to hold your prescription hostage. I have asked *twice* for them to give me my prescription after a recent eye exam that I paid for! I cannot afford the price they quoted me on a pair of eyeglasses - it's close to what I pay for rent!
