BUT: Without car in Halifax, have to walk through/in woods to get to ill-placed bus stops. I have a woodland path to my bus stop, 10 mins. Or, walk way round on busy road with no crossings -29 mins.

My 94 year old father just paid $1500+ for a pair of glasses at a local place. I’m quite angry at them, it’s robbery of an old fellow with zero capacity to fight them off.
Optometrists who also dispense eyewear should not be allowed to hold your prescription hostage. I have asked *twice* for them to give me my prescription after a recent eye exam that I paid for! I cannot afford the price they quoted me on a pair of eyeglasses - it's close to what I pay for rent!
