Mask (respirators) Beginner Guide

This guide is for people who want to start wearing masks or want to wear masks more often but are a bit confused about the whole thing.

What is a respirator? What is a duckbill mask? What is an 3M Aura? Where can I buy masks that will protect me? What is a KN95?

If it doesn't get inside you, it can't make you sick.

Respirators are designed by experts to help protect you from aerosol hazards, including COVID, the flu and other airborne diseases, and tested to make sure they are effective - and they are.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is a quack.

Putting it all together:
- covid is airborne
- people are getting it repeatedly
- it’s wrecking immune systems

Sounds like the effort to permanently hand control of preventative health guidance in Canada to this group is being railroaded through, aiming to have it locked in by April 2026, before the public has time to react and start fighting back.

Spread the word, talk to politicians, journalists, etc.
OK this is ridiculous. The draft new Canadian public health guidance-development mechanism doubles down on excluding subject matter experts from voting roles, restricts membership to people from inside the EBM pseudoscience bubble, and sets up to funnel public money to McMaster-GRADE courses etc.

The sheer dedication to avoiding any mention of COVID when talking about things that we know for certain are heavily impacted by COVID is...impressive.

The "after pandemic" bit is a red flag too - someone's either not keeping up, or deliberately trying to manipulate the narrative.

The elephant in the room is that any effective defence against COVID and other airborne pathogens will end the careers of today's public health and IPC leaders - their only hope to beat charges of negligence is the lie that it was never possible to do better.

They cannot afford a success.

The walls are closing in on those responsible for the worst medical error in history. There's no denying it was a mistake when they let their egos reject the advice of people who knew better, there's no denying it killed an enormous number of people.

If you know anyone involved with infection control at @uhn.ca, ask them why the policy isn't to use N95s. Do they understand how sketchy the claim is that medical masks are good enough? Is this all "just following orders"? Do they still believe they have nothing to learn from non-MDs?

Just...why?
Here goes UHN in Toronto (👉including the cancer hospital👈), repeating the same mistakes as always, because doing the right thing is less important for hospital admin than covering up having constantly done the wrong thing since COVID hit.

MEDICAL MASKS ARE NOT AEROSOL PPE, YOU NEED AN N95!

“we’re all gonna get it” is every bit as defeatist and doomerist as “we can’t do anything about climate change”. why do so many who are so fervent about protecting the environment refuse to acknowledge this? is our collective health not equally important?
“Well everyone else was doing it too” is never a worthy excuse. Just because practically no one masks or keeps up with the alarming science on COVID doesn’t exempt everyone from responsibility.

#MaskUp and protect yourself and others. In the future, you’ll be glad you did.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
