The circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant; it's what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.

The news is too depressing today.

This is a unifying theme in human health: Many chronic conditions arise from common roots but express in different ways.

Mental health diagnoses are often linked: people with schizophrenia are much more likely to have bipolar disorder.

There's a *spectrum* of psychopathology.

Why do we keep calling them Nazis, anyways? They're KKK sympathizers. They might *want* to be seen as something more significant, but they're not.

The original person blocked, so I'll quote it here instead. They're my honest thoughts on the whole situation.
That said, if rousing their homophobia is what gets him pilloried, then we won't be the ones who won.

They will have, once again, subverted the tools of justice to leave in place the same broken institutions that let a man like him rise to power in the first place.

For-profit insurance boggles my mind. An entire business model built around strategically withholding the service you pay them for, then charging you extra for it.

Oh, and every net-positive quarterly report's another string of bodies. There's that, too.

Huh... I did *not* have "abolish the Senate" as our next left wing reaction on my bingo card.

I figured they'd go for the electoral college, first.

It's nice having such an earnest, sincere person take the spot. Feels like a relief.

And, if some of those people saying they'd leave NYC truly do... does that mean their jobs open up, too? And their housing? Michigan's been better than Texas to me, but I could move again for a forever home.

You, reader, are a brain. If you were a brain in a jar, you'd still be you.

You'd also have substantially more control over the environment your brain is housed in... and nobody would bat an eye, because you're just a brain, aren't you? People would expect you to craft a vessel of your choosing.

When the ultra wealthy move on from AI, I hope we don't forget the dreams we once had of it.

A tool is just a tool. Using it destructively, whether harming the environment or to manipulate society, were decisions made by unimaginably short-sighted people.

But, the dust of history is no fair judge.

I haven't had a whole can of monster in so long... my brain is so bouncy right now!

Unfortunately, it's well past midnight here. This is a problem.

Downvotes, huh?

I remember Youtube and Facebook used to show downvotes. Then those got hidden, and so many people were vocally upset about losing the ability to anonymously display their displeasure at things.

It's interesting how sentiments have changed after Reddit and reaction-based algorithms.

Happy spooky day! 🎃👻

Hope you all have fun out there. As for me... time for an all-night horror marathon, woo!

One of these days, I want to open a flower shop. One with teas and candles too, and private rooms in the back for quiet reading.

It wouldn't be profitable, of course... but I wouldn't want it to be, either. I wouldn't want it to have to be transactional just to survive.

Apparently, I'm on some "AI Haters" labeler? Which is wild, because I'm just anti-corporate, pro-environment, and think artistic integrity is vital to human expression.

I don't blame the technology for how it's used. That would be like blaming a fire for burning your house down.

I choose life! I choose liberty! I choose the pursuit of happiness!

I *also* choose to snuggle up in a big plushy arm chair and play Stellaris all day.

Freedom sometimes means tearing open the veil and unleashing mind-melting psychic horrors on the rest of the galaxy. Blood for the blood god~

Oh, are we doing the rapture bit, again?

Last time around, we laid out clothes and pretended people got raptured while doing normal things.

A looot of people also got suckered into giving away all their worldly possessions.

So, uh... live like you still want to live tomorrow, okay? Just in case.

No more news for me. Just let me know when things are okay, again.

The thing we should say is that it’s ok to be concerned, but then you should trust the experts and listen to them on that subject. Nobody is doing step 2 with anything: trans rights, vaccines, climate change, guns, etc

It’s fine to not understand, but not fine to be ok with a lack of understanding.

The primary antidote to despair that I've found is getting engaged in local organizing and volunteering.

Find a group doing work you care about in your area - homeless advocacy and outreach, immigrant support, queer rights - and volunteer with them.

It's a tremendous counter to helpless despair.
What do you suggest though? It's all very well saying "Don't let them win" but it's not like people have a little switch in their brains they can just flip from Despair to Hope.

This should be obvious but debate culture is a zero sum spectacle organized around a collective humiliation ritual. The point of a debate isn’t to produce a new, intersubjective understanding. It’s to decide who wins. Anyone demanding you participate in it does not have your best interest in mind.

We've had two actual, honest-to-goodness lynchings. I just... I don't think I can take this, right now.

Here's the list of senators that MAHA wants people to call in support of RFK Jr.

Seems like the kind of list you should also call if you want to say you support vaccines.

Please, help.

It might sound crazy now, but a few of the dems up there just don't know better. They're surrounded by people they personally know, a lot of them conservative, and they're being told day in and out that the public wants *this* or they need *that* to keep their funding.
hi, cis folks!

trans people need your help! the FY26 budget gets a vote by 9/30. GOP wants a ban on funds for ALL health services that provide trans care for ANY AGE. they're trying for other bans, too.

we need you to call senators like chuck who don't get it: reps.fyi
