Twenty years ago today, Hurricane #Wilma reached its peak intensity, and achieved the lowest central pressure of any Atlantic hurricane on record: 882 millibars. At that peak intensity, sustained winds were 185 mph in the eyewall, which was only a record-small 2.3 miles in diameter.

🥵As of 3 September 2025, the number of extremely hot days (🌡️>= 35°C) in #Tokyo in 2025 has risen further to 28 days, significantly exceeding the 22 days recorded during the summer of 2023 !

🥵The anomaly in #Japan's average surface temperature during summer 2025 (June to August) was 🌡️+2.36°C, significantly exceeding the previous summer record high of +1.76°C set in 2023 and 2024 since records began in 1898 !

Record mensuel de chaleur d'août aussi à l'Observatoire Fabre de #Barcelone hier 16-8-2025, avec une température maximale de 38.9°C, battant les 38.8°C du 23-8-2023 (mesures depuis 1913).
Le record absolu annuel sur cette station historique de référence date de l'été dernier (40.0°C, 30-7-2024).
A falta de confirmació oficial l'Observatori Fabra de Barcelona ha arribat avui als 39 °C, valor més elevat en un agost des del 1913. La mitjana de la temperatura màxima anual ha passat de 33,1 °C (1914-1943) als actuals 35,3 °C (1996-2025), i això té un nom: canvi climàtic.

🌡️From 18 August to 27 August 2025, Tmax>=35°C were observed for 10 consecutive days, setting a new record for the longest such period.
Previous longest record : 9 days from 25 June to 3 July 2022 (measurements since 1875)

The heatwave in Sodankylä has now lasted for 26 days.

This is probably not only the longest heatwave in Lapland, but also the longest heatwave ever observed in Finland.

Note that here a heatwave is defined with 3 consecutive days above 90th percentile, which is scientifically robust definition.

📈The monthly anomaly of the average surface temperature over Japan in July 2025 was 🌡️+2.89°C. This significantly surpasses the previous July record of +2.16°C set in July 2024, marking the highest record since statistics began in 1898 for 3 consecutive years !!
