Either editorial malpractice or willful distortion. Neither is excusable for the purported "paper of record."
Those with sharp eyes might detect a subtle difference in NYT play last month of an event in one city, w 100,000+ attendees, versus play this morning of some 2500+ events w many millions of attendees, in all 50 states.
See if you can spot it! /s

Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.
Check out how tiny the crowds were:
Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

Yes. This episode of the Daily had me yelling and spitting. Vought is a Christian nationalist extremist, not a small govt conservative who happens to be Christian.
We need to talk about Russell Vought – But Properly
Why certain mainstream outlets insist on sanitizing Vought as a devout “small government” conservative – and what actually animates his war against pluralistic democracy.
Some thoughts from my new piece:

Feel free to attribute the following to a former OMB General Counsel: The supposed "new legal analysis" is, to use a technical legal term, horseshit. What the law actually says is that when Congress enacts a law ending a lapse, furloughed employees get paid at the earliest date possible. Period.
Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

Also, no. The Dept of War was something entirely different — it was just the Army. There was a separate Dept of the Navy. (Also, it was never an agency.) The DoD brought together both and added the Air Force and the structure of the Joint Chiefs.

President Trump will sign an executive order on Friday renaming the Department of Defense the Department of War, the name the agency held until shortly after World War II, the White House said.
