Shout out to my colleague, Brian Kavanagh, for this good piece of legislation! Big Oil needs to feel the pain they are causing us all.
The status quo approach to dealing with climate change is to pass the growing costs onto everyday Americans through higher rates for home insurance (and rent).

A new bill in NY would chart a different path by making oil and gas companies pay their fair share. climateintegrity.org/news/view/ne...

Senate Bill 8585 would keep insurance affordable and available by holding oil and gas giants accountable for damage from extreme weather disasters

The latest Trump/Miller cruelty. Is the point (a) to prevent people becoming citizens at all? (b) to have another chance to nab them before they do? (c) to move ceremonies to places where ICE can round up friends and relatives? (d) all of the above? centralcurrent.org/feds-stop-on...
Feds stop Onondaga County naturalization ceremony — and say some county courts can't conduct them
Federal officials canceled a naturalization ceremony in Syracuse — and say county courts don’t meet the statutory requirements to hold them.

So beautiful to see the community rally around those who are under threat; so infuriating that we have to do it, day after day. Monday night we rallied for two workers at Upstate hospital who were taken, Tuesday we came together for Jeremy & Rick. Let's make it stop! www.syracuse.com/news/2025/11...

How on earth does this make us "great"? A family torn apart, a business shuttered, pillars of the community terrorized, all for what? Rick and Jeremy will lose everything they've built here, and we will lose them. If it can happen to them, it can happen to anyone. centralcurrent.org/before-the-d...

ICE agents on Veterans Day came looking for a French national and the husband of a beloved Hawley-Green business owner. Now, a new life.

I met with a group of Israeli students last month. 1 asked why white people face so much discrimination in the US, another insisted Harris lost b/c she didn’t support Israel enough. They seemed more brainwashed than MAGA zealots. It was scary and sad, for a country with a rich intellectual history.
In my experience, if you try and tell people what the actual stated policies of the Israeli government is, they don't believe you.

Onondaga County (NY) voters flipped the County legislature from a GOP supermajority to a Dem majority. Judge races spanning 6, mostly rural, counties, went heavily to Dems in a major change from the past. The Colossus has awakened - we just need to keep it awake!

Here in central NY the Rs are blaming Trump and their “brand” for big losses. They need to own the part every one of them has played in helping build that brand by refusing to hold the corrupt, cruel incompetents and would-be fascists accountable.

I'm seeing a massive efflorescence of anti-Zohran trolling in the last 24 hours and can only wonder whose big money is behind it. I hope NYC voters see right through it.

Once again this DoJ shows itself to be undermining justice and twisting the legal system for its vindictive purposes. They are also inadvertently showcasing the courage & strength of AG James and her extraordinary generosity to her family. I stand with Tish.
This isn’t about me. It’s about all of us.

It’s about a justice system which has been weaponized. A justice system which has been used as a tool of revenge.

My faith is strong. I have belief in the justice system and the rule of law.

Let me get this straight: Attorney General Tish James is being prosecuted for doing a kindness for her niece? I condemn this baseless act of retaliation, but isn't DOJ inadvertently lifting up a strong, courageous woman and showing the world how generous she is? www.nytimes.com/2025/10/24/u...

You know why Mamdani has captivated so many voters? Because he doesn't do this wishy-washy doublespeak. Also "in advance of early voting"? That only leaves you a few hours.
Asked why he's refused to endorse Mamdani, Hakeem Jeffries replies: "I have not refused to endorse; I have refused to articulate my position"

New Yorkers! Get ready to vote! And if you need to register, there’s still time. Local elections matter. A lot. Here in Onondaga County the Legislature is sorely unrepresentative of our demographics and they manage almost $2b of your money. Please end the GOP supermajority.
Saturday marks the Golden Day for the 2025 General Electio Season. First Day to #earlyVote, Last day to #registertovote, and last day to request a #votebymail ballot and have it delivered to you before #Electionday. Find it all at onvote.net

Yesterday was also the 250th anniversary of the brutal British Navy bombardment of Falmouth, MA. They thought it would break the resistance, but it only made the patriots more resolved, and ultimately it helped end the siege of Boston. Resistance builds resistance! "No Kings" was powerful.

And they want to say WE are un-American? Every single person who ever served this country should be nauseated by this video.
It is a scandal totally unprecedented in history that the Vice President has shared a video depicting the President as king. It’s an obscene violation of every founding American principle.

And nothing will come of it. It makes me physically sick.

Syracuse showing up today!

Vance doesn’t “want us to grow up in a country where a kid telling a stupid joke …is cause to ruin their lives.” But he’s fine with a country where showing up for an immigration hearing, school band, school pickup, or peaceful protest is cause to ruin many, many lives.
It's telling that Vance's first instinct following the Politico leak was to tell his sons to be wary of what they write in group chats--to assume “some scumbag is going to leak it in an effort to try to cause you harm.”

His message here is basically--be racist; just don't get caught.

In 1991 I knew 3 families in Moscow. Each night a dad from 1 and a mom from another went out to the mass protests against the Soviet regime, rotating among the 6 adults. That way they knew the kids would still have at least 1 parent alive if the tanks came. We have no excuse for staying home.

I'm trying to work on legislation to promote the urban canopy, including non-living shade structures, as a public health and climate resiliency measure. Welcome any ideas for what that should look like.
100 percent agree — except if you have kids or elderly relatives and need some damn shade! Bjarke Ingels and ONE Architecture made great efforts to ensure the park would protect the neighborhood from rising seas, but rising temperatures were evidently an afterthought

Banned Books Week! Still hoping the Gov will sign my Freedom To Read Act. The ALA tracked 821 censorship attempts in 2024, 3/4 of which originated with outside pressure groups. Only 4% came from library patrons and 16% from parents. We need to protect librarians and kids’ freedom to read.

I stand with Tish. She has been unflinching in pursuit of justice and defense of democratic values. This indictment serves neither. It is a sad day when the DOJ abandons its mandate and stoops to personal retribution. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...
