Proud of @thatrabbicohen.bsky.social and all my colleagues who chose to speak painful truths instead of doing what would have been easy and convenient this High Holy Day season.

Text version in skeet below this one.
I'm sharing my full Kol Nidre drash. I dive hard into Gaza. I've had sermons that were more difficult to write than this one but I've never had one that was this difficult to deliver. Thank you to @theradr.bsky.social and so many other colleagues for giving me the courage.

Is anyone else on the edge of burnout/on the edge of crying constantly/has no energy or creativity at all? I cried with my supervisor for the third time in 2 weeks yesterday and she told me to take the week off but like ?? What will that accomplish when there is a ever worsening genocide?

Thinking about community today and I remembered that when I was living in Connecticut in the early days of the pandemic, I used to walk by an older couple's house that had a little vegetable garden planted in old recycling bins. I complimented their plants all the time on my mental health walks.

I put curl cream on my face last night and almost salted my coffee this morning instead of putting sugar in it. I had a mostly good Pesach but, man, does it take it out of you!

Everyone keeps talking about “AI” this and “AI” that…but how come none of you sing yAI lai lai, when the rabbi clearly encouraged you to???

BTW, your disgust that Musk and all the TrumpMusk trolls online have caused a resurgence of the r-slur falls flat when you use Every Single Other Word ever coined as a label for intellectual and cognitive disability at a constant pace.

But when you're attempting to criticize eugenicists, using the language created by eugenicists to justify warehousing and killing disabled people to insult them is careless, sloppy, pointless and shows that you don't understand what you're talking about and don't care to really learn.

Some of you are so so deeply invested in using ableist language you don't even realize when you do it. You just use these words without thought.

You use them to describe people, places, inanimate objects, constantly. Your descriptive vocabularies are impoverished by your reliance on this language.

Really not sure what the endgame is supposed to be when you just keep looking people in the eye as you throw their ballots in the trash because they voted against you
Bombshell in North Carolina: the state's GOP-dominated Court of Appeals just sided with the GOP candidate in last year's supreme court race.

Their decision would toss roughly 60,000 ballots (!) that have been counted, & likely hand the election to GOP instead of incumbent Dem Justice who won it.

I understand the cynicism of people asking why Cory Booker is filibustering when no legislation or nomination is involved. But he's taking the narrative and unifying Democrats a day before TFG's April 2 announcements, and right before the April 5 protests. This is strategic.

Prayer is meaningless unless it is subversive, unless it seeks to overthrow & ruin pyramids of callousness, hatred, opportunism, falsehoods. The liturgical movement must become a revolutionary movement, seeking to overthrow forces that destroy the promise, hope, vision. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

Nothing has made me more uncomfortable lately than someone from my apartment's maintenance team trying to guess my race based on family pictures I have on the wall.
