Thinking about how the Israeli gov intervened to get Omri Boehm, Israeli-born philosopher and grandson of Holocaust survivors, banned from speaking at the 80th anniversary ceremony of the liberation of Buchenwald this year, because he planned to say that "Never again" is about more than just Jews.

We should never forget that this synagogue was targeted specifically because of their work with HIAS on refugee rights. Seven years later, we should honor their legacy by fighting antisemitism, but also by continuing to do the work of supporting refugee resettlement and migrant rights.
Seven years ago today, 11 Jewish people were murdered at the Tree of Life Congregation, a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In their names, we will continue to stand up against hate, bigotry and the rise in antisemitism taking place around the country. May their memories be for a blessing.

Make no mistake: ‘No Other Land’ is a victory for the Palestinian struggle

While some have accused the Oscar-winning film of normalization, leaders and activists in Masafer Yatta are unwavering in their support for joint resistance.

Reminded this evening- I was at a department store looking for a bra and this 60 ish year old guy came up to me. I braced in dread, but really softly he asked, “Can I ask you for some help? My wife just had a mastectomy and I want to get her something that will make her feel pretty but is soft.”

On the other hand, I'm 100% against paywalls in scientific research journals. Research is almost entirely publicly funded, and scientists do all the work (have ideas, get money, research, write, review). Plus, we pay publication charges. All scientific journal articles should be open access.

What is going on??? Who is having these arguments? What rules could people possibly be worried about violating here, who is enforcing them, how and why? You can... you can just do things? You don't need the internet's permission to do them or not, to approve of things or not!
You’re not violating a reading rule if you opt not to finish a book that's not resonating with you. Life is finite and we thus have a finite number of books to read. Reading shouldn’t be a chore. You needn’t feel guilty for ensuring that your time reading is spent reading things that you love.

After Trump was elected, I started to wonder what could the grassroots, cities, and states do to move the needle on climate change without federal support. It turns out, a lot (gift link)
What Can US Cities and States Do for the Climate Under Trump? Plenty
Federal progress on climate may stall, but city halls and statehouses are in a good position to build on recent gains.

It's world philosophy day, so post your favorite thing about philosophy.

Mine is that philosophy has never had disciplinary boundaries. Every other field has always been within our purview. Anyone who tells you different has to ignore millennia of examples.

Suddenly occurs to me it really is like Gaslight! We’re not allowed to set boundaries. Every boundary set is a “dare” to them. As in — the mantra of the aftermath: your body, my choice. Demanding we stay on X or entertain opposition of a certain kind, or are obliged to engage, is, well, rapey
Will it be “useful”? Yes, if you don’t want to see, unbidden, steroidal men yelling about everything (and listening about 0️⃣). Honestly this is straight up Gaslight. A billionaire turned a public forum into a propaganda machine & now we have to reflect on whether those who LEAVE are narrow?
Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?
