Being an immigrant with no family in the country you live in means making your own traditions to mark the days that are important to you. I still get a Christmas tree every year. Invite friends over for cookies and crafts. Drink wine, make fancy meals.

I added the tiniest possible amount of almond extract to the remaining half of the cookie dough (probably 1/16th of a teaspoon), and lowered the oven temperature by 10 degrees C (no added bake time). These helped: Flavor improved a little, tenderness improved a lot.
