In a typical year, the OKC Utilities Department anticipates 600 to 800 emergency water main breaks across its roughly 4,300-mile network of water lines. At the end of FY 2025, there were 1,101.

Several factors contributed to increased breaks: pipe age, material corrosion and environmental stress.
