ATTN GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES: The VA sent out an announcement with a link for employees to self-report their disabilities. I wouldn’t do this if I were you. They’ll likely use it to discriminate against you.

The power of art and science together.
I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

Wicked: For Good is beautiful. Grande and a brilliant and Erivo is astonishing. No Good Deed and For Good are better than I hoped. There are a couple of directorial choices I didn’t love, but those didn’t diminish the power of the film overall.

It’s the week of Thanksgiving in the US, and the handful of students who came to class today are working in small groups to share their current projects with one another and get feedback. We’ve jazz playing quietly in the background. This hum of curiosity and creativity is what I will miss most.

Mad respect and hope for NYC.

This is the only response.
HUNT: The president is talking about a third term. How seriously do you take that?

GALLEGO: I don't take it seriously because he will be in violation of the Constitution and he should be arrested if he attempts to do that

Me: scrolls through headlines and social media while getting increasingly anxious and angry.

Me: Sets up a monthly donation to local food bank, puts on a romance audiobook and feels the knot in my chest begin to ease.

Donate, march, make art. Action, however small, is better than inaction.

Jesus tap dancing Christ.

It’s called Humanities.

You know, that thing that folks have been shitting on for the past few decades?
Wow. Just wow.

My students are working on their researched arguments. They are in groups of 3 to discuss findings and counter arguments, so their peers can ask questions and help find gaps in their research.

They are so engaged and enthusiastic, and I feel so much pride at how they are thinking through problems.

Make more art.

My local community college is proudly “shattering enrollment records.”

Community college is an inverse leading indicator of economic health, and the alarm bells are ringing.

Good morning! You feel like you’re going crazy because their attempts to bludgeon you into submission with weaponized unreality aren’t working on you.

Keep it up. You’re doing great.
