congrats to joe brandon and all the purported defenders of democracy who normalized cracking heads on student protestors in order to cover for israeli genocide. you really greased the skids for ol donnie trump to formally submarine the first amendment

Man the liberal hall monitor vibes here are nuts. Liberalism and the Democrats are the plucky good guys who just need to fight the Republican bad guys. A simplistic view of the world.

The attack on Bessner and others on this site is nuts. Liberal Internationalist propaganda that proports the US should fight to stay as the unipolar 'liberal' power. We see no balanced views on this site at all. Twitter is a better site even at its current state. I said it.
I’ll have you know I was sanctioned by Russia
i really liked this essay for tearing up weird putin apologists like moyn, bessner, and others, but also for highlighting a fact that i think should be central to our understanding of foreign policy going forward: autocrats are going to fear democracy *no matter what we do*

Bluesky libs in general.
there’s so many people insisting that economic condition is the one thing that doesn’t affect politics for some reason lol

Metal Gear is art.
Watched a pretty good video about MGS2 and when the guy was talking about the big long scene where the Patriot AI talks to you I noticed how the AI used logic and language that appeals to the modern right winger. It's actually kind of scary how they SOUND like a modern right winger.

"International minimum wage. Is there one? No. Should there be one? Yes. America could say, “If you want to sell goods here, if you want access to our attractive markets, the workers involved in producing the goods must have been paid X minimum wage.”"

The neoliberal consensus of Hayek, Friedman along with others ended up reducing the intellectual rigor of the billionaire and millionaire class. They genuinely think government spending and Keynes is evil. You can't have protectionism without industrial policy.

Yeah but the neolib types want to deregulate unions and praise people like Jared Polis who use permitting reform to attack labor. Abundance from a socialist/socdem perspective is good but we need to remain skeptical.

All that is happening is an evolution of our neoliberal system of Keystroke(credit creation, high interest rates, bailouts), Finance(banks, private equity, hedge funds, real estate), and Monopoly Capitalism.

Free speech is dead. This is an escalation to an awful degree.
UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.

The Dems have an opportunity after these awful tariffs come into effect. I suspect they'll do everything to blow it. Hope to be wrong.

Tragic, we need wealth redistribution and predistribution if not this country will fail if it hasn't already.

Very true, possibly the most consequential and barbaric atrocity in the 21st century so far. The Democrats paid the immediate consequence this last election but more will come.
I probably would have been writing a ton about Project 2025 in 2024 if it were not for the genocide. I'm sure that's true about a ton of the best policy researchers out there. The impact of Democratic Party-backed genocide comes through in a thousand different ways that are largely not measurable

Some accounts here keep hoping for some liberal tea party movement in 2026 but what if the actual alternative is just more losing to Repubs? So far the Dems are cowering in fear doing nothing.

China could solve its consumption problem while also lowering unemployment by passing a 32 hour workweek into law. Although they won't do it. They have this neolib belief in overworking, unfortunately.

Yes! It is so bad. You got the loser alt-right types on Twitter and here on Bluesky you have liberal internationalists wanting to start World War 3...it's BEYOND awful.
One thing I have noticed about this site is that it is uniformly made up of hysterical liberal warmongers confirming each other in their delusions, and whose chief obsession seems to be denouncing anyone who criticises them from the left.
