Deep thanks to @desibility.bsky.social for working with me on this essay. I'm so happy to be given a space to talk about what the past 6 months have looked like me, from a long time in the hospital, losing my ability to walk, and now - although mostly trapped - home.

Through all this noise .... How are you showing up for your family, community, disabled people, trans and queer friends?

Are you logging off and doing the work of loving with your hands and heart? Writing love notes? Checking in on people? Making care plans? Listening? Holding?

Want to learn what Medicaid is, how it helps people with disabilities, or how we fought Medicaid cuts in 2017 (and how we can stop them again)? Check out our recording of our webinar, “What is Medicaid and what how can we save it — again?”

I used to share random thoughts on IG stories as text but I recently just started writing the words down on paper with whatever I have on hand. I don't edit for clarity or grammar. I may start sharing snippets of these here. #supportcreators #handwrittennotes

First Screen free Thursday in the books. Had to cheat and use my phone as a camera, calculator and recording device 😉 So much living happens outside social media platforms and entertainment. Highly recommend

Went down a fascinating rabbit hole ( thanks alej!) about this and thinking about my earlier days of wandering the internet driven by curiosity and searching for depth .... That can no longer really be found on social media due to its nature. When the tools no longer serve us find different tools
Really good work in progress. I'm now the proud owner of an RSS reader. I will put the grave despairing news of our time into my eyes when only I see fit!!

Highly recommend if you, like me, are unplatforming from *most* modern social media.

The intent here is very clear.
NEW: The Trump administration has halted nearly all global health funding, immediately, for at least 90 days.

That includes the lauded HIV/AIDS program PEPFAR — a “catastrophic" move that’s “doing irreparable harm to the global AIDS response." My latest for @npr.org:

www.npr.org/sections/goa...
PEPFAR, the acclaimed anti-HIV program, faces loss of funds as part of U.S. aid pause
On Friday, a memorandum signed by Marco Rubio called for a 90-day cessation of foreign aid. That would likely put on hold the work of PEPFAR, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

With farm workers rightfully avoid their jobs due to Trump's deportation madness:

Create a Costco shopping group--especially if bulk is too much for your household--where you can pool funds and split the food.

Set up trips to local farms if possible for picking season because it's a lot of food.
Coalitions dont have to be legislative.

They’re cutting school lunch funds. Pool money in your neighborhood and offer to pay the school lunch fees for the kids.

They’re cutting Medicaid. Take a survey at your church of the costs of Rx of your elderly members and cost share.

Help people.
Agree 100%, but I guess I was asking what your ideas for a solution are since moving isn’t a realistic option (for almost everyone, including myself). Most face similar situations and I’m open to listening to all ideas.

Here’s one thing you can do today: write to Senators and Reps asking them to override Trump’s executive order limiting communication about health topics. All of HHS - including Medicare - is restricted from communicating with public and contractors. It’s a de facto shutdown of the entire agency.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
