Have been seeing some constructive chat about Senator Thorpe’s contribution to contemporary political discourse, so wanted to see if it would work centralizing discussion.

Because, yeah, chucking pieces of paper at someone is a "Heath & Safety risk". Right.
Under an archaic and little-used rule of the chamber for making “inappropriate and sometimes abusive comments”, Lidia Thorpe has been suspended from the Senate until the end of Thursday after she appeared to throw paper at Pauline Hanson during a tense parliamentary debate.

Penny Wong says there have been multiple instances where Thorpe made ‘inappropriate and sometimes abusive comments’ towards other senators

They're fine with Senator Hanson being grossly racist to Senators Payman and Thorpe but they draw the line at calling out racism #CivilityPolitics #auspol

I see Lidia Thorpe has been suspended from the Senate for the rest of the sitting year.

While I am not a big fan of Thorpe, I think this is harsh considering that rancid pillocking peanut, Babet merely gets censored for “n*gger” on SM & gets to carry on being a toxic stain on democracy as a Senator

Good call Stranger! I listened to Lidia Thorpe this morning and she was very articulate in explaining the reason for her behaviour. She has guts and a very good point about how no one pulls up Hanson for her racist behaviour.

Astonishing though not at all surprising that the major parties should join forces to expel Lidia Thorpe but not Pauline Hanson. Everything they pinned on Thorpe could have applied, again, to Hanson. Shameful. #auspol

There are (very) mixed views of Lidia Thorpe everywhere, but she sure can unite the Canberra gallery in a universal chorus of oped column tut-tutting. Which is nice in an era of political/media/platform division don’t you think?

I think what Senator Lidia Thorpe did to Pauline Hanson was great. I loved that Lidia tore up Hanson's crap in support of Fatima Payman. #Racism should not be normalised in Parliament. It's about time someone called it out as she and Senator Payman did. #Australia

‘Lidia Thorpe apologises to Pauline Hanson after mistakenly describing her as ‘convicted’ racist’

Well.. maybe not “convicted” 🙄

..but it’s the same Pauline Hanson who told Mehreen Faruqi to “pack your bags & piss off back to Pakistan”

& the same flog who has fanned the flames of hate for decades

The big question of the week is why is the Sydney Morning Herald so terrified of Lidia Thorpe?

Lidia Thorpe is right, racism deserves to be treated with utter contempt no matter where it raises its ugly head.
Predictable that Labor joins the Liberal’s to silence an indigenous woman in Senate.
