We already pay as much rent as mainlanders, food is more expensive and wages are lower. Going to big events isn’t possible for most. We’re becoming one of those tourism destinations where the locals can’t afford to do anything. The stadium will massively accelerate that process.

Tasmania is about to enter a period of fiscal austerity it hasn't experienced before. Hospitality businesses near the stadium are expecting some sort of economic nirvana. They better hope mainlanders are cashed up. Tasmanians using the stadium will be lucky to afford a packet of chips. #politas

Is it just me, or is this statement by Dean Harriss MLC a deluded belief:

“Mr Harriss said he believed the government's promised measures would help to address state debt, while attempting to accommodate more debt for the stadium.”

“One speaker, local real estate adviser Jacob Field, described his audience as ‘makers’, while the anti-stadium brigade were ‘takers’.” What does a real estate advisor make, do tell, Jacob. And how exactly is draining the public purse for the benefit of a select few not “taking”?

@ABC, what about asking what would it be like to experience ANZAC Day at the Cenotaph with the stadium dominating the area, and desecrating the Cenotaph? #nonewstadium
What would it be like to visit the proposed Hobart stadium?
From potential gridlock to an "immersive" viewing experience, let's set aside the politics — just for a moment — and look at what planning documents tell us about the building at the heart of Tasmania...

We couldn’t afford a stadium 2 years ago at a cost of $750m (++). We can’t afford it today at $1.13billion (++) and we won’t be able to afford it late next year when contracts are signed for maybe $1.5billion (++). And the ++ is in the order of at least $350m (that we know of). #nonewstadium
Tasmania’s economy is in a diabolical situation. Saul Eslake says no one is to blame but the Govt. Eric Abetz must be held accountable. We CANNOT afford a stadium.
