Labeling this as self harm is wild, Bluesky
While Trump is reinstalling Confederate monuments to honor racist white enslavers, he’s ordering national museums to remove images that depict the true horrors of slavery so he can eliminate what he calls “corrosive ideology.”
National park to remove photo of enslaved man’s scars
The Trump administration is ordering the removal of information on slavery at multiple national parks in an effort to scrub them of “corrosive ideology.”

Aaay it was just pointed out to me that Loving v. Virginia was decided on this day in 1967

Shout out to the case that recognized my and The Husband's constitutional right to get married almost two months ago, and to actually treating the Reconstruction Amendments with some respect

That book made it easier for me to see relationships between braiding as communication technology, as a site of collaboration between the braider and person who's hair is being braided, and code.

100% of the products tested had carcinogens. 9 out of 10 has lead. A protective hairstyle should not lead to premature death.

Synthetic hair is not regulated by the FDA. Between this, carcinogins in relaxers and in hair dyes, there seems to be no regard at all for Black women's health.

Here's a story that illustrates why primary sources are important & how Black history is whitewashed.

It involves a mass slave escape, Government-sponsored slut-shaming, my nomination for the Blackest name in history & the guy who discovered two words that might end racism.

A thread.

We're happy to announce the transcription and publication of the D.C. Slave Code of 1860.

We dive into this slave legislation in a blog post showing its relevance today and why some things just don't seem to change 165 years after the law was made.

I’m four generations away from slavery. Four. My great great grandmother was born enslaved in the Caribbean. I had tea with my great grandmother. My mother is in her 70s. Four generations. This freedom thing is new and fragile.

"no minister ... within this colony and dominion, shall hereafter wittingly presume to marry a white man with a negro or mulatto woman; or to marry a white woman with a negro or mulatto man,.." -October 1705 Virginia Annex of Laws

Undoing Loving v. Virginia would take us back centuries.

That part.
Most people don’t know that slavery still exists. Amendment 13 abolishes slavery except where imprisoned. There should be no exceptions to abolish slavery.

American history is an uncomfortable truth.

This is the kind of white fragility that washes away the harsh reality of our past and if we cannot face it, then we are bound to repeat the atrocities and injustices we've committed.

Shame on the leadership of the national archives.
The National Archives are pivoting heavily into open white supremacy. Stuff like this has been happening at an increased clip for several years now. The fascism is baked into our institutions. We need to recognize that.

They argue that ‘Visitors shouldn't feel confronted’. This is pure erasure.

The first transatlantic slave market in the Americas was Salvador.

There is so much to learn and exchange about our shared history!
I've been noticed people don't have ANY IDEA that Salvador is a city of Brazil. They just think Salvador is the same of El Salvador and this hurt me
