I started putting together some dioramas made from flats. Unfortunately because of how shiny they are and the lack of depth it's very hard to get decent pictures of them at this stage.

(Yes I am also working on the Wyrd cats in the foreground which have taken way longer than I intended.)

There are several really long massively angry rants inside me about the current shit show pretending to be our government, but the one I'm most viscerally livid about is food stamps.

42 million people in fucking NOVEMBER are about to lose access to the only thing they have keeping them fed.

I had been looking for a way to actively support the removal of Citizens United's treatment of corporations and people. I hadn't realized it was predicated on state laws. That seems an excellent place to start chipping away at it.

Reminder: look deeper into how to help with this in illinois 📌
This is some of the best political news I've seen in a very long time.

There's a clear a way to end the Citizens United precedent by changing state incorporation laws - and now luminaries in both parties are forcing a vote on it in the 2026 election.

Skywise is finished, which means I'll have at least two pieces for the MMSI show next weekend. Don't think I'm gonna get the still life done in time at this rate.

One more thing added to my list of reasons I detest the Salvation Army.
It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

Today's harvest before I even touch the cherry tomatoes or the parsley.

The rodents started digging up the daffodils so I decided to have at a bit earlier in the season than I had originally intended.. this is only the two spots closest to the stoop and with me leaving the biggest deepest clump in. It was definitely past time to divide these out.

Finished it. Based on Alphonse Mucha's Evening Star.

Approximately 3 x 6", cast resin sculpt, brass trim, acrylic paint.

I love broccoli harvest season.

I can feel fall coming in my bones at this point. If I'm lucky and I take decent care of the beds I'll have two more months of garden veggies even as the insane quantities of squash die back.

Finished with Skywise. Time to repaint his tree.

The garden and the CSA this year has been amazing, and sharing back and forth with my nextdoor neighbor has just made it better.

Two nights of lovely food:

Garlic lemon "butter" (Myoko's plant butter) chard, salt potatoes, and mushroom hamburger quinoa. That chard was incredible.

I have cancelled my Substack account. I have no desire to hang out in a Nazi bar. There are many other good options for hosting that aren't promoting Nazis. If I can't find your newsletter elsewhere I no longer care.
The Substack app apparently push alert promoted a Nazi newsletter to several users. Users have complained about it on Substack Notes but the company hasn’t responded. Generally push alert promos are for content a user is likely to interact with

Working on the harvest still life flat. An original sculpt based on a photo from when my garden was keeping me sane during year two of Covid. I dove kinda heavily into my art at the same time.

Haven't had nearly enough time to work on this lately. Gotta fix that.

I now know exactly what the trim design will be, though I might shift the color of the lines to a dark blue tone. The reddish brown doesn't harmonize with the rest of the piece as well as I hoped.

This. Please. So much this.
I really like this philosophical framing

America is run like a bad failing business, Singapore run like an effective business

But it’s sure worth pursuing the indigenous values of “society as a household” … to scale

I need people to understand that Americans are literally being killed by this administration's dismantling of the government.
🧵If anyone tells you Medicare isn't being affected by cuts, tell them they're dead wrong.

I have both severe asthma & COPD. My lung function was 33% in 2023, while *on* all my meds.

Only one type of steroid inhaler works for me; I've tried the others. All of them.

But this year, the Aetna...

Every time I see one of those No Kings protest signs my brain hears Fievel singing "There are no Kings in America and the streets are paved with cheese.." Then it tries to sub cheese with Cheetos and the mental image of DJT paving blocks brings all further musical thoughts to screeching standstill.

This is the kind of shit I'm actively worried about right now. What happens when you combine US farms only being incentivized to grow grain at the same time we are dealing with tariffs, losing farm workers, and massive cuts to SNAP, food banks and quite probably Social Security?
So that $10B bailout for farmers.

Is it a payout for political support? Yeah. Bold move for an industry that talks so much about hard work & independence!

But it's also worse than that. This is a US food crisis in the making.

Let's talk about the payoff part first?

I spent an entire afternoon figuring out how our household weathers the year if Social Security checks stop coming. It will be very rough, but as long as everyone else's income stays stable (not a guarantee in this environment to say the least) we will make it. Barely.

This is insane.

Undercoat of paint down. With the colors laid out on it I've decided I need to add a bit more brass edging on the left hand side and the bottom to give it enough weight. That's gonna be annoying at this stage, but worth it.

Final sculpt of the Evening Star, with a display backing added.
