Shared joys and small gestures, darlings. Always the way to my heart.

XO
I'm not sure there's a word for when your heart does that little internal happy dance, and for half a minute at least, you can feel joy like music in your bones.

But.

Public transport isn't just for Middle Earth. Narnia's getting in on the act!

I've drawn a subway map covering all 7 books of The Chronicles of Narnia. Follow the plots lines, but don't touch the third rail! #Narnia #Maps #Subway

Thanksgiving is upon us! So...how best to show your distain to your terrible relatives? How about eel pie?

In his 15th C. cookbook, Bartolomeo Platina includes a recipe for eel pie w/ instructions to feed it to your foes when it's done, because eel pie has no redeeming features.

Inspire our hearts, Lord Jesus,
that we may hold nothing
to be of greater value
than your love for us,
your call to follow
the way of discipleship
in your kingdom.
Open our eyes
to see your image
in every person we meet,
that we may always honour
your love for all.

You are acceptable right here, right now, exactly as you are, exactly as you feel & function right now.

That does not mean you have to love where you are, or that you can't or shouldn't work to realistically change if you choose-- it means you don't "have" to hate yourself now.

Hiraeth (HEE-reyeth)
(n.)
- An intense longing for a home you can’t return to, or that never was.

Used in a sentence:
“And evermore, deep in his small and ancient brest, there stirred a sorrow sharp as winter wind—a hiraeth for the numinous lands of Faerie that slipt into legend many ages agone.”

I wrote about one of my favorite Peanuts comic strips of all time—and a whole bunch of other ones—and why this one might be the richest single expression of Charles Schulz’s interests and imaginative world.

You call us, Lord Jesus,
to follow you,
and be sent out by you
into the world
to share your love
in our words, works and ways.
Give us the faith and courage
to meet what we find
in grace and peace,
guided by you
in all we think, say and do,
bringing all your peace.

Sometimes, my heart lights up because of simple beauty—a sunset, a cute animal, a bit of stars glittering in the sky.

Other times, it is a simple gesture of trust and care—a bit of connection amid the chaos. Softness and sweetness that lingers.

Feel what you feel. Validate it, explore it, express it (in safe contexts), understand it. Honor it.

Then: breathe; blink; focus; & remind yourself you're not under any obligation to let the intensity of a feeling "make" you do things that'll short circuit your recovery arc.

Remind yourself today that you don't have to be prefect to be worthy. You don't have to be perfect to deserve to live. You don't have to be perfect to deserve safety, or love, or happiness-- or to deserve more than the bare minimum in life.

You deserve it all. Here, now.

- A well-read person with wide knowledge of books.

Use:
“Gerald soon discovered that his years as a quiet bibliognost had been unwitting training for his new post as head librarian, where every patron appeared to require the services of a human card catalog.”

Morning Prayer: Loving God, may gratitude find a home in our hearts. May thankfulness and appreciation flow out of our hearts into our actions. May our hope be greater than our fatalism and cynicism. May our celebrating be more prevalent than our complaining. Gratitude.
Amen.

You know us, Lord;
each of us personally and by name,
better than we know ourselves.
You call us to follow you,
to follow the way of your kingdom,
to follow your summons
into your work and mission.
Help us in our openness to your call,
and the sharing of your love.
