ATL retro game / FGC guy.
Not everybody is going to value "canon" as much as tonal consistency.

Like I just have a very hard time taking arguments like this seriously. You cannot pretend to not understand why people take issue with the portrayal of Samus in that game and why it feels like a complete departure.

IIRC some of the worst characterization issues in Other M were also inventions of the localization, particularly with how Samus viewed Adam.

Just some Picross.

They're kings at "show, don't tell" but sometimes insist on telling anyway. Weird, that.

Metroid Prime 1 has to be an all-time fluke. "Metroid is now an FPS made by Texans" is just something that never should have worked as well as it did.

If nothing else it confirmed my suspicions that Marble Garden is secretly the most BS level in that game.

Anyway it's "fun" to recontextualize the level design when you remove its intended security blanket. My gut tells me that it'd be easier to pull off this challenge in S1 but even harder in S2.

Basically I'm just glad that there's one tech company who still develops products in the service of *some* kind of long-term user-oriented vision, even if that user isn't me.

Valve manufactures pretty much nothing for my own use cases, but I appreciate the Steam Controller for the same reason that I appreciate Proton, in that all of it is part of the necessary R&D for the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. Which I also have no use case for, but still, cool that it exists.

I was gonna insist that this had to be a typo, but I just looked it up. Sheesh. Being a child at the time just makes time feel like it was more spread out than it was.

I don't think the stooges ever really went away.

Probably lived on as "background radiation" until the end of the TV monoculture.

Even before it "established" itself as an ad space, nothing in history has given off a "please respect my hobbies, dad" vibe as badly as The Game Awards.

Born from the same insecurities that drive "games are art" types, obsessed w/ the cultural relevance of art but lacking any respect for the craft

It's not conspiratorial. They're literally just admitting it.

You have to view this as a party-wide consensus, and anyone who isn't explicitly calling for new leadership needs to be assumed to be in lockstep with this decision.
🚨 Tim Kaine is saying the quiet part out loud - underscoring why anyone shouldn't be satisfied with any of the "no" statements or posts from Dem Senators.

If Dem Senators are truly disgusted with this save they should be calling on #SurrenderSchumer to step aside as the Leader immediately.

The "twist" still has impact on the viewer because the viewer can feel the impact it has on Sarah and John Connor.

I feel like modern spoilerphobes don't engage with media on even that level. The sort of people who digest narrative as tvtropes bullet lists instead of living alongside the characters

The trailers give it away. But the thing is, almost nobody on Earth complains about this being "spoiled" for them because it's not the unfolding of the plot beats for the viewer that matters; it's empathizing with the characters as the plot unfolds upon them.
