My dad didn't really know the difference b/t yugioh and magic, and accidentally got me, uh, 2006-ish Solar Flare from an LGS that was selling complete decks to move inventory all at once.
He then took me to a weekly bc I didn't know the rules.

Also the "am I safe to draw here?" math is annoying and players are pretty universally bad at it.

Playing games that do not allow IDs/don't have draws/draws are 0 points has fully shifted my perspective on Magic's draw system.
Just make draws 0 points. Though it usually benefits me, watching newer players realize that their final round at 3-2 that could be a win and in just...isn't sucks.

I would honestly be happier with a system that explicitly forbids prize split conversations and does not reward IDs. You signed up to play the matches gor X prizes. Play 'em for X prizes.
As the system currently works, players with good knowledge of the system who are members of the community in good standing can basically legally collude to determine the outcome of a match *through* a judge-as-mediator.

Simply never speak a SINGLE word about prizing and match results to your opponent in a Magic event unless that actual word has been said to a judge and the judge said that word was okay to say

Angus King is not one. Dude is an explicitly right of American Center (TM) independent who happens to not get along with the GOP caucus so he caucuses with Dems.
He's always been extremely anti-confrontational re: Trump.bc he believes this era is a blip that will blow over.
