this is correct as a legal matter but i think we need to be clearer that these aren’t “enemy combatants,” they’re just guys in boats. there’s no evidence whatsoever that any of them have endorsed or participated in any violent act against the U.S.
If the Venezuelan sailors were enemy combatants, then the 2nd strike is a war crime.

If the Venezuelan sailors weren’t enemy combatants, then both strikes are criminal murder.

It’s that simple.

sharing this call to action from LUCE, our immigrant defense network in Massachusetts.

t-visas are a critical (if insufficient) protection for migrant workers. deporting people applying for them is greenlighting even more abuse from bosses toward their undocumented labor.

my worst grade in undergrad was a history class where i wrote a book report saying the assigned book about Churchill was hagiographic and vapid. i was admittedly very pissed!

i still cannot imagine, in that moment, going to the media over my homework assignment
The reason people don't like conservative students is that whenever they're inconvenienced or annoyed they throw a tantrum and call in national media to terrorize their peers.

if companies are looking for ways to cut labor costs (and they always are), cutting high-priced execs who outsource their thinking to a computer seems like a reasonable place to start
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

"The agreement places no restrictions on our transgender community."

Except whether they can play sports, where they can use the bathroom or locker room, what kind of housing they can live in, and what healthcare they can receive.

this is all nazi shit but it’s particularly galling to see the idea of someone being from a “failed state” presented as an indictment of them or their culture.

underdevelopment and “failed states” largely happen because of imperialism and extractive global capitalism—not personal/cultural failings.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

just about every large corporation is consistently making horrifying arguments like this to avoid liability for harming their consumers and employees.

this is not to say OpenAI isn’t evil, but that they’re not unique. the the profit motive is inherently destructive and anti-social
"It is against the TOS to be talked into suicide by our LLM" is possibly the most evil tech bro thing I've ever read
Additionally, OpenAI argues its not liable because Raine, by using ChatGPT for self-harm, broke its terms of service

Moments ago: tenants of the South Shore apartment building that federal immigration agents raided at the end of September held a presser to announce they're forming a tenants union.

They're demanding, among other things, sewage removal and heat and electricity restroration.

More updates TK.

workers should democratically control the means of production and the halls of political power
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

we need to do something as a society about the scourge of “frozen hot chocolate”
Beginning Monday, a Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate drink will be available exclusively at Starbucks cafés inside Target stores.

The chains are hoping the drink can drum up excitement from customers this holiday season.

we’ve had this fight in Cambridge, too—as long as we continue to collaborate with federal cops through BRIC or private surveillance contractors, we will be putting our neighbors at risk of ICE abductions
Activists and immigration attorneys warn that a Boston law enforcement program has created formal and informal channels for passing data to ICE. The city is applying to renew the federal grant that supports the program, adding to critics’ worries.
Bid to Renew Federal Grant Sparks Concern Boston May Help Trump’s DHS on Immigration
The grant helps fund a law enforcement center that’s drawn criticism over privacy and over data-sharing with ICE. It would also come with new strings to spend money on border control.
