🧠 Paper out!

We investigated how hippocampal and cortical ripples support memory during movie watching. We found that:

🎬 Hippocampal ripples mark event boundaries
🧩 Cortical ripples predict later recall

Ripples may help transform real-life experiences into lasting memories!

Movie-watching evokes ripple-like activity within events and at event boundaries
Nature Communications - The neural processes involved in memory formation for realistic experiences remain poorly understood. Here, the authors found that ripple-like activity in the human...

The entropy of the EEG signal offers real-time insights into the 🧠's current state of excitability and activity! Our recent preprint with @joelfrohlich.bsky.social shows this in a #TMS study: high pre-pulse entropy ➡️ larger TMS-probed excitability. Larger TMS-induced excitability ➡️ higher entropy
EEG entropy reflects both intrinsic and stimulation-induced corticospinal excitability https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.05.16.654439v1

This paper is pretty incredible! Simultaneous invasive recordings of cortex and thalamus *in humans* during a visual awareness task strongly suggest that HO thalamus plays a gating role in awareness.

Human high-order thalamic nuclei gate conscious perception through the thalamofrontal loop
Human high-order thalamic nuclei activity is known to closely correlate with conscious states. However, it is not clear how those thalamic nuclei and thalamocortical interactions directly contribute t...
