This cartoon was drawn 8 years ago.

It seems the right time for it to be reshared.

My friend @iandunt.bsky.social let me borrow his substack to write about the Trumpian Tariffs, their Brexit parallels, and what it all could mean for the UK and the world.

Finally, a return on investment for my endless patience teaching him about comic books.

we’ve had a whole lot of twitter exoduses before but this one sure feels sustainable in a way others have not, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down and I’m seeing a whole lot of communities on here I’ve never seen before

I hope everyone stays

I expected to wake up exhausted, despondent. but I looked up and for the first time in my life I thought, "there's no one left to look to. it's just us."

so I am shocked at how I feel: furious, clear-eyed, galvanized. we who saw this from the beginning, for better or worse, it's our time to lead.

i think that the people interested in recriminations and score settling right now aren’t seriously grappling with the magnitude of what happened and the implications for the rest of our lives. most of us will probably die living in the political order that will emerge out of this election.

This is the tail end of the long 20th Century. The future many of us thought we’d be living in hasn’t even shown its face yet.
All we can do is be there for each other as PEOPLE. Be strong for each other. Shame them with kindness, drive them mad with joy. Make a world their children leave them for.

There is going to be a flood of all sort of second and third level explanations, but at very first glance, it is kind of clear: winning by this much, the third time around, with campaigning this transparent - folks want this.

At this point it’s abundantly clear that it was never really "But, her emails” it was "But, they’re females.”

I love everything about this story: Tony Hawk posted a ‘70s era image of a Black girl skateboarding in the rain. Jeremy Markovich tracked her down.

Tony Hawk wanted to track down a mysterious skateboarder from 1979. We found her.
A photographer snapped a shot of Shaunda Shane skating down her street in Fayetteville when she was 10. How did the world's most famous skateboarder see that picture 45 years later?

Alongside "who built Hadrian's wall?", another great example of knowledge falling foul of 'common understanding' is scurvy.

The Royal Navy discovered the cure for scurvy, won the Napoleonic War, humanity then lost that knowledge without realising, then got saved by two Norwegian guinea pigs 🧵 /1

Enshittification comes to the living room. Although if you never connect the TV to the Internet and use an AppleTV for content, I think you can neuter this trend?
The trend of building surveillance into all new smart TVs is "incredibly invasive and little understood,” EFF’s Jacob Hoffman-Andrews told @arstechnica.com. "Nobody wants a snooping and snitching television, but lately that's all you can buy.”
Your TV set has become a digital billboard. And it’s only getting worse.
TV software is getting loaded with ads, changing what it means to own a TV set.

You know what's even worse about this? I know some folks who had some slight cognitive impairment from COVID and were recently diagnosed with ADHD.

The ADHD meds actually helped mitigate the symptoms of cognitive impairment, assuming they could fucking get them.
Isn't this quite high? 😳
Sometimes I wonder if the increase in hate online and the rise in crime and road rage is related to covid brain damage? #WearAMask #CovidIsNotOver
