I got accused of being a radical today. Am I a radical for not wanting people to suffer or starve? For being upset when programs to fund cures, feed the homeless, give medicine to vets, and medical care to the disabled get cut? For wanting people to have a base level of empathy, compassion, and care for others? If that makes me a radical, I guess I am one. I thought it just made me a good person.

Key advice for trans solidarity protests NETPOL #DefendDissent Key advice for trans protests - No Comment. There's no such thing as a friendly chat with police. You aren't required to answer police questions, so don't. - No Personal Details. When on the street, you do not need to give the police any personal details (name, DOB, address, gender, nationality, etc). This is particularly important for trans people whose official documents may not all show the same details. - Ask 'Under what power?' to challenge police to act lawfully. - No Duty Solicitor. Instead use a bustcard solicitor with protest experience, and memorise the name of one to use in case of arrest. - No Caution. Accepting a caution is a legal admission of guilt. Stop and search During a search a police officer may touch your legs, arms, back and chest on top of your clothes. They can make you remove outer layers of clothing such as a coat or hat. If you are being stopped and searched, 'non-intimate' searches can be done by officers of any gender, but you have the right to ask to be searched by an officer of the same (binary) gender as you, and they should do this if it is "reasonably practicable'. We don't yet know how the police will respond to the Supreme Court ruling on single sex spaces, but we do know that the police are a transphobic institution. Call the GBC support line on 07946 541 511 if you are searched and need support, especially if you're misgendered or police refuse to comply with your request for an officer of the same gender. What if police ask for my ID? You do not have to give any personal details during a stop and search. Police stop and search people to gather intelligence and to intimidate; they will often ask for your details, but you aren't required to comply. If they succeed in accessing your documentation by going through your bag or wallet and finding ID, bank cards or letters, cops sometimes argue that you 'might have stolen' your own property and so they 'need your details' to verify that you haven't. This is nonsense, but does sometimes happen to people, regardless of their gender. If you know you are going on a demonstration, think about what documentation you need to bring with you: if you don't need it, leave it at home! Call GBC on 07946 541 511 if you have any issues around this.
