Torontonian here. These are better than nothing! But public opinion in the city is negative, since 1) very expensive (also taxed more than detached housing) 2) mostly made up of cramped 1bed/studios 3) clustered along a couple of arterial roads. We want upzoning neighborhoods for midrises.

I 1000% support projects being on budget vs them being best advice. NA is famous for over-engineering things to oblivion. Look at the rest of the world, EU/Asia, who manage to build while staying on low budget because they literally cannot afford to be lavish at that scale.

It's not hard to see how we've gotten to this point. Politically, DCs are the easy choice. Taxes stay low, existing homeowners see their property values increase, we can say developers pay the cost. But truely we're adding the cost onto the rents and mortgages of new residents.

Canada gets a lot right! If it could tame its housing crisis, it can be the place where newcomers stay and call home!

The good news?

There were huge protests in Sydney.

That minister didn’t last much longer.

And Sydney has reinstalled that bike-lane & many more.

“The NSW Govt has spent $5 million replacing this link in our expanding bicycle network, which is crucial…”

bsky.app/profile/bett... Chicago isn't my city but I do want to give @betterstreetschicago.org a shoutout
Today is a clear reminder of why #PlowTheSidewalks is so important and why we have worked tirelessly advocating for the City to release its pilot recommendations.

The City must now follow through on its commitment and fund it. A report is meaningless unless plows hit pavement.

Has there been a demographic study of condo owners / home owners in the city? I cannot imagine young working professionals staying in the city unless they absolutely cannot leave.

I would imagine a lot of tech workers in Asia and the rest of the global south disagreeing with this take.

While traveling this summer with my parents, I had to be weary of some stations like lucien l'allier. Escalators were down for the entirety of our trip.
