Does International Law Apply to Everyone?

The recent U.S. military operation in Venezuela, the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, and public statements by President Trump that the United States “will run Venezuela” raise profound questions of international law regardless of one’s political views.

BTW, here's a related section from a 2020 blog post, from when Torres v. Madrid was pending, on the early law of arrests.

Today’s episode is one of my favorites in a LONG time. We laughed so hard and it’s the type of story that inspired us to make this pod in the first place. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/l...

The best thing about being here as a law professor who works at the intersection of law, political science, and history?

When I talk to law students, I get the sense that FedSoc chapters today are different—more extreme, more overtly political, unabashedly MAGA—than they might have been 20-30 years ago when many law profs were in law school. Think this legacy helps explain why so many still treat the org seriously.
Judge Edith Jones launched an acrimonious and unfair attack against @stevevladeck.bsky.social on a panel today at the Federalist Society convention that went entirely against the spirit of civil, fair-minded debate. Steve acquitted himself well, but it's sad to see. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DBl...

Matt Gaetz practiced law for two years at a private law firm. That is the extent of his legal career. He has been under legal investigation almost 10xs longer than he’s practiced law. This is not only a disgrace to all Americans, but the legal profession.

So the House would release the Ethics report on Gaetz if he was still a Member, but since he’s been nominated to be the chief law enforcement officer for the US with control of every federal law enforcement agency, investigation, and case, they will hide the report. Makes sense.
