Heat pumps can be a no brainer. But it requires trusted partners guiding homeowners thru the journey.

Finding that partner can be challenging, which is why I started @vayu.pro.

Something something installing heat pumps is harder than landing a rocket on a ship in the middle of the ocean

…Kidding

Incredible accomplishment to nail this, on the second try no less. Huge kudos to the Blue Origin team, proud to have played a teeny tiny part in this big win!

The future is all-electric!

That’s the chair of @calenergy.bsky.social walking the walk and electrifying their home!

This is the way for a clean, safe, efficient, energy independent home. Heat pump HVAC, water heater, and induction stoves are the magic trifecta to kick dirty gas to the curb

Oh well, let's try the chat. "We're sorry the team is assisting other customers". No option to wait for an agent.

30 minutes on hold later, I finally get a hold of an agent at an overseas call center, who emails me a checkout link. 10 seconds later, I finally have my replacement ordered.

Let's talk about crummy customer experiences.

Yesterday, I got an email that my Peloton bike was recalled. To order the replacement part, I should either call their support number or use their online support portal.

Of course, it was from a do-not-reply email address...🧵

Congrats to BPI on launching the Cold Climate Heat Pump Assessor certificate program today!

More people educated about heat pumps and selecting the right one for each house is great news indeed.

I didn't realize they had broken into the US market! I have seen their stuff in India (www.heatpumped.org/p/you-can-bu...) but haven't worked with it personally. Will have to dig into this some more!

Super interesting brand positioning.

I love pomegranates.

But they're a pain to peel and always make a mess.

Kind of like heat pumps! The payoff requires a lot of pain. It's tempting to reach for the easy path (the bowl of halloween candy on my counter, or in the case of heat pumps, another gas furnace).

How do we make it easier?

Got some good news in my inbox this morning from
@buildingdecarb.org! Biggest heat pump market in the world!! 🔌💡

The best kind of email.

One of the most rewarding things about installing heat pumps is the instant feedback. We get to rip out clunky old furnaces, and see our customer’s delight!

Hacker News loves heat pumps! Maybe this will be #1 soon?

Today is Heat Pump Water Heater day! Never been a better day to use the heat that’s already in the air around you to cleanly and efficiently heat your water! 💦 #HPWHday #GoGoHPWH #AWHI

This is how I feel when I stumble on a heat pump appreciation thread like this

Signs you’re an HVAC contractor:

- You stop to look at air conditioners wherever you go
- You’re always replacing the thermostat in your house
- You have a heat pump at your desk
October 20, 2025 at 7:24 PM
I need your help sending another gas furnace to the junkyard - @vayu.pro is looking for a part-time project manager to help us grow!

Zero prior knowledge needed.

If you’re organized, creative, empathetic, and want to break into a climate career, you’ll thrive.

Know anyone who fits the bill?

This is getting super nerdy, but pulled from the install manual. Your contractor probably (should) be installing with Scenario 1. That lets the indoor & outdoor units talk, but the thermostat just sends on/off signals.

Scenario 2 would be full communicating, but they reference the 1401 thermostat
October 9, 2025 at 2:02 AM
Midea's rolled out a nice smart communicating thermostat now but I'm not sure if that has made its way to Carrier's offering (not seeing anything similar on their lineup). The old Midea/Carrier thermostats were pretty horrendous. The new ones are a huge improvement.

Sorry, but that's just plain wrong. Here is the extended cooling performance data for a Gree Livo, a fairly basic heat pump unit. Its nominal capacity is 9,000 BTU/hr, and it maintains that full capacity (9,013 BTU/hr to be exact) at 110 deg F

Wild. This full page ad was in today's @wsj.com

My reaction was to google "Lululemon Private Equity" & I was not wrong!

We keep seeing stories of PE gobbling up thriving companies and leaving behind husks.

Lithuania proves it doesn’t.

They unplugged from the Russian grid, built solar + storage at massive scale, and joined the EU grid on their terms.

They even produced so much clean energy, other countries wanted in.

It’s like the “Tech Tree” in the game Civilization.

Research order matters. Unlock solar before fossil fuels and you get a totally different planet.

October 6, 2025 at 6:36 PM
But what if photovoltaics (solar panels) had matured first?

Instead of megaplants, we’d have millions of rooftop generators. Each home producing and storing its own electricity.

A civilization that started decentralized instead of centralized.

Today’s reality: giant power plants → high-voltage lines → substations → your wall outlet. A massive, centralized machine just to make toast.

I asked that question to Don Norman, the acclaimed designer and author of "The Design of Everyday Things" at the Agile Electrification Summit last week - and it changed how I think about energy systems.
