“The Death of Public Health”

Jonas Salk saved millions with a polio vaccine. He gave it away to help humanity. Today, venal and yes, evil billionaires—Koch to Musk to Peter Thiel—are fully behind destroying American society for profit. They want you poor, sick, and desperate. We must stop them.

Another Friday night massacre, but this time it's not just an essential federal public health agency that will die

if you are in Maine or Alaska and you have healthcare concerns of any sort:

1. Call your Senator AND
2. get on social media now, and make a video telling your Senator to vote no. TikTok, IG, YouTube, FB.
Then link it here and we will amplify!!
The vote-a-rama votes are mostly nonbinding, but it is notable that Collins and Murkowski have sided with the Democrats on a number of these votes so far. The expectation is that they'll stick with the Republicans on final passage, but...

The NIH firings, and the grant cuts that pushed out scientists at universities, have already had DEVASTATING effects on US science.

Research labs are precious and fragile things. Taking one key person out can break it.
ICYMI, we pub’d an essay on this:

It takes years to build a science lab
Productive science requires a great team, and that team develops together. That's one reason chaotic interference is dangerous for science.

The findings of this letter need to be made public and MUST include EVERY SINGLE HHS AGENCY/SUB-COMPONENT.

It needs to account for all of the ERRORS ON THE RIF NOTICES

IT NEEDS TO EXPLAIN TERMINATING ACCESS WITH NO PRIOR NOTICE.

Just in NIH grants, It looks like beautiful Iowa City, home of the U of Iowa, will lose $71m in funding. That's almost $1k per resident. And that's before all the other cuts to SSA, FDA, etc.

Anyone in Iowa City that can offer more insight?

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.
