The massive government funding package just failed badly in the Senate, 45-55.

Needed 60.

Zero Democrats voted for it.

SEVEN Republicans opposed it:

Budd
Johnson
Lee
Paul
Moody
Rick Scott
Tuberville

(John Thune switched his vote to no for procedural reasons.)

AHRQ FY26 = $0

FY 25 = using FDA to process continuation grants in Sept with FDA as authorizing official and no longer federal employees from AHRQ as grants management specialists.

This is the guy now running AHRQ into the ground.. After firing more than 1/2 the staff- Fired so many they used FDA in Sept to process grants & kept the names of the fired grants staff on the Notice of Awards.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

how is a RIF bona fide w/ no reorg yet was the basis for the RIF? Can abolished competitive areas be ‘abolished except for SES who stay in their positions? Is it only an admin error d
If some people who should be RIFd are not & only caught because of mspb appeal 8 months later, still no problem?

NY v Kennedy PI keeps some HHS Feds on admin leave since April 1 instead of having them return to work while case is ongoing. These are people the Admin wants to get rid of so won’t let work get done since they can’t fire them…yet.

How about checking the unemployment roles.

So many unemployment. So many earning less.

So now we were fired because the work was boring?
January 21, 2026 at 12:10 AM
With no help for illegally fired Feds. Nothing to require agencies like HHS to follow the rules and rehire fired Feds, not continue violating RIF regs - leaving people to rely on the unpredictable and lengthy MSPB appeal process. Many still unemployed and struggling.
