Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like if a US exchange student in a foreign country (say, Turkey?) was imprisoned for six weeks because they wrote an op-ed in the student newspaper it would be a huge domestic story and an international incident.

Trump JUST made a big show of extraditing a suspect in the Abbey Gate bombing. If guilty someone who killed almost 200 people including children and 13 Americans.
He got due process. He'll have a lawyer and his day in court. Because America.
