OK SO, 25% book tariffs are set to go live April 2. this is tricky for a number of reasons but the simplest is that most books are published & warehoused in the US, even those by Canadian authors, so this makes it infinitely more complicated than "Buy Canadian Authors" or slapping on a sticker

People are on Reddit are saying the IMLS office is being torn apart. It's a big deal for a lot of reasons.

One is IMLS also pays for/supplies some of the infrastructure for the internet for public libraries, especially in rural areas and for tribal communities.
There is a LOT of reporting on IMLS right now, but it's being done by people who know what it is. The DOE being dismantled is overshadowing this and that's being done INTENTIONALLY.

But anyway, DOGE is in the IMLS offices right now destroying it.

Say goodbye to interlibrary loans + more.

powerful detailed account of ICE captivity

"To put things into perspective: I had a Canadian passport, lawyers, resources, media attention, friends, family and even politicians advocating for me...Imagine what this system is like for every other person in there"

I’m the Canadian who was detained by Ice for two weeks. It felt like I had been kidnapped
I was stuck in a freezing cell without explanation despite eventually having lawyers and media attention. Yet, compared with others, I was lucky

A responsible call-in show could have had a panel of real experts present information on historical context (annexation of Hawaii, overthrow of Chile, Iran), international law (it's illegal!), social dynamics (CAN and US are different!) and allowed callers to ask questions. THAT'S informative.
