Today we are having roast duck, mashed potatoes, stuffing, honey glazed carrots, corn, dinner rolls, and corn bread. Hubby is doing the cooking. I did the baking yesterday and I'm the sous chef and dishwasher.

So, went on to the Irish Newspaper Archive website, forgetting the site revamp has gone live and oh, my GOD it's a massive improvement. Way more smooth when trying to view pages with more than 10 results to them. [and the infinite loading screens] - still getting used to the search, but good so far!

What just fell out of this court record? Pounce! Before blotting paper became available, & for long after too, people used pulverized cuttlefish bone to dry ink. You can it clearly on this inky mess of a signature, together with a piece of contemporary blotting paper for comparison 🗃️ #bookhistory

200 years ago today, October 26, 1825:

The Erie Canal was ceremonially opened in Buffalo, New York. The 363-mile-long artificial waterway stretched from Albany on the Hudson River to Buffalo on Lake Erie, connecting the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. It transformed Buffalo into a major hub.
