Me: Yes, it is. This is who we've always been.

Person B: How did we get here???

Me: We've been here all along.

Going to avoid reposting the WH’s stmt for Child Abuse Prevention Month instead say:

Every child deserves to grow up safe, supported, and free to be themselves.

Affirming care helps trans youth thrive.

Let’s lead with compassion, facts, and a shared commitment to every kid’s well-being.

CDC’s tobacco program wasn’t eliminated to save money. Federal employee salaries are only about 4% of the Federal budget. The Office on Smoking & Health was eliminated BECAUSE our work is highly efficient and cost effective. Make no mistake that tobacco companies won today.

The CDC's Office of Smoking and Health funds local and state tobacco prevention and treatment programs. 490,000 people *still* die of tobacco-related illness in the US annually. This will have enormous health consequences.

PubMed is a VITAL public health tool. This is not a niche nerdy thing. It’s how your doctor knows what chemotherapy combinations work, at what doses, for whom. It’s how biomedical researchers learn from what came before to prioritize new research directions.
PubMed has been down for at least 11 hours and we are EXTREMELY concerned. We hope it’s mere incompetence and not an official action. If any of our followers have media events today, please mention it.

This is chilling. To claim that trans health is not human health is eugenics, and has no place in scientific research

Before we talk more about disability, we need to address the history of eugenics, ableism and racism that haunts US public health work.

Did you know that the CDC's work goes way beyond responding to outbreaks? They're also vital for tracking long-term health issues like tobacco use, which has devastating, chronic consequences.

Tomorrow, I'm doing a webinar for clinicians who want to advocate for Medicaid with their federal elected leaders, as Medicaid faces existential threats.

Clinicians are some of the best possible advocates for Medicaid, and I am really, really good at this. We won't waste your time. 🧵

If we want to reduce the burden of disease and keep people alive, this list centers exactly where our efforts must focus.
Going to share the list WITH ACTUAL USEFUL ALT TEXT for the blind and low vision users here.

They deserve to be able to have access to the list, ESPECIALLY SINCE DISABILITY IS ON IT. 🫠

Staff at CDC are being asked to scrub data on trans and non-binary folks from datasets.

Public health ethics hold us to the highest ethical, professional, and scientific standards. Deleting data about Americans is unethical.

OPM has ZERO authority over CDC practices. Obey the law.

As we organise with one another to begin the impossible but necessary task of atoning for the violence with which our nation and its medical field have been – and continue to be – complicit, we must own our ethical responsibility.
