I think everyone should familiarise themselves with the theory for such key concepts as consent, rejecting a sexual practice for yourself without judging it morally for others, sub drop and how it can happen even in the most vanilla sexual encounters, and aftercare and how it's often needed in even the most vanilla sexual encounters (but often treated as a joke and something to ridicule). futureevilscientist Summary for those who haven't read the links: Sub drop is basically getting the endrophin high from sex and then crashing hard from it. You just had an amazing, intense experience, so why do you want to cry??? Why do you feel weird and empty and alone? Even if you don't get the outright crash, when the horniness fades, it catches up to you just how vulnerable you've been, and it's natural and common to feel a little lost and alone after that. Contrary to what the term implies, you don't need to be the submissive party to experience this. Note how much vanilla sex culture ridicules this ("crying after sex" jokes, etc.). Aftercare is the antidote to sub drop, it's the post-sex affirmation that things are good and you are safe and appreciated. Common forms include cuddling, ice cream, taking a warm shower together, wrapping yourself in your fuzziest softest bathrobe available and general relaxation together. Comfort and reassurance. Note how much vanilla sex culture condemns people as "needy" for wanting this kind of treatment, or for being upset that their partner just walks out on them after sex. (The people being condemned as "needy" are usually women, but I don't even want to think about how much men certainly need this comfort too but feel like they can't ask for it without being seen as un-masculine.) This is what I mean when I say BDSMers and kinksters are the only ones who have this shit figured out. None of these things are actually exclusive to BDSM and kinky sex, vanilla sex for everyone would be SO MUCH BETTER if these things were part of universal sex ed.

Vent "No, I can't go on that cruise to Italy with you, because I'm struggling to get a passport that doesn't put me in danger. I'm scared I might have trouble getting home." "Yes, I'm looking at other job opportunities/leaving my position working at school, which I love so much. It's becoming unsafe for people like me to work with children - I got a death threat the other day." "Will the doctor/therapist/etc. you're recommending be safe for someone like me?" "Before I meet your parents, I need to know if they know about me. Will I be safe?" "I'm afraid I could be arrested if I travel to that state for your wedding and need to use the restroom at the venue, I'm sorry." Seeing it actually register on people's faces that this is my life- that these policies are real and affect real people they know and love- is a really bitter pill. On one hand, it's sad to have to break such depressing news. And on the other hand, it feels so isolating and infuriating that people who love me apparently have no clue any of this is happening unless I take the time to inform them. Just needed to get that out. Thanks for listening.

Petition details Petition to the House of Commons Whereas: Mastercard, Visa, and other payment platforms have been leveraging their power over consumer ability to purchase legal content; In 2021, Mastercard changed its policies to regulate adult entertainment by preventing the use of its payment platform on numerous adult entertainment sites; As of July 2025, video game distribution service Steam now cites rule 15, that “adult only” content is not permitted on the platform if it goes against payment processor’s policies. Steam does not describe what content is defined as “adult only”; As of July 2025, video game distribution website Itch.io has “deindexed” all adult NSFW content from browse and search pages. Users that previously purchased legitimate video games cannot access games that have been removed; and This has set an unsettling precedent of corporate censorship, causing concern in video game development teams, including developers, voice actors, and artists in other creative fields as their livelihoods are in limbo. We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to 1. Stop financial discrimination by payment platforms against legal goods and services; 2. Ensure transparency to consumers about content restrictions and the rationale behind them; and 3. Protect creators' rights to make legal adult content and ensure a fair appeals process for any penalized media.
