Do you think there's a world, that didn't happen, in which social media was built into an internet protocol?
So, meaning... individuals release comments, blogs, video, music, etc from a single source. And then social media acts as the feed, not the host. Similar to how RSS worked, and email works.

The advantage, to my mind, being that you'd have gotten built in interoperability as the normal way the internet works. People would still have to optimize for algorithms, and various other issues, but you wouldn't have the issue where, if you quit a platform you lose business and friends.
