there's a certain way certain people write fiction about disability that really sets my teeth on edge, and it's an approach that I can only describe as 'educational hugboxing'

in this, portrayal of disability must be constantly affirming, and it must use specific and correct terminology

characters written in this style feel like they're wearing my suffering like a cloak with all the ugly bits cut out

deeply messy pain is tucked just out of sight so the facsimile can be held into the light instead

look, everyone! this is what you can be! this is how you *should* be! do better <3

but we do know that trump's massive anti trans push mostly caused him to lose ground, so people should really not be afraid of standing up for trans people.

the sheer contempt our society has for children is absolutely staggering. “kids lie constantly” is shit adults made up to justify never taking any meaningful action to support the children they so frequently claim to be protecting

bari weiss saw this and decided that she had to hide it from the american public
Guards began beating him. Beat him until he bled. Knocked his face into the wall, broke all his teeth. No access to outdoors, no contact with relatives.

Now describing US knowledge of CECOT's torture practices, followed by footage of Trump praising those practices.

No one in media should let the world forget all of these men and their party made uncovering the secret pedophile cult of Epstein not only a central part of their advocacy but framed it as an existential crisis to humanity
Trump: "This whole thing with Epstein is a way to try to deflect from the tremendous success of the Republican Party ... I thought that was finished ... a lot of people are very angry that this continues."

60 minutes CECOT segment. Recorded through my browser. HD quality. Not phone. Spread it around. If you're press, it's yours. Go nuts.

It's streaming on a Canadian website, but there is no telling for how long.

but even so...if someone is getting accommodations, they're almost certainly disabled. and if they aren't...who cares? it doesn't actually hurt you, but policing it will hurt a lot of people.

it is not possible for random assholes in line to tell whether someone is able bodied or not.

the bad outcome in these situations is when someone who has a disability doesn't take advantage of the service because they worry about being judged. (this happens all the time.)

YOU DUMB FUCKS. THIS IS ME.

I have a scooter. I can walk. I can't, however, walk through 80 miles of airport. I can walk onto an airplane or through hallways. I can't walk the .5 mile to the convention center.

People, get smarter, it's embarrassing at this point.

one of the ways that Joe Manchin was very damaging to the Dem party as a whole was the way he'd go on television all the time to talk about how the rest of his party sucked

nobody should ever make the mistake of thinking MTG is on their side but "Republican on TV saying Republicans suck" is helpful
Marjorie Taylor Greene: "I think the midterms are gonna be very hard for Republicans. I'm one of the people that's willing to admit the truth and say I don't see Republicans winning the midterms right now, so that doesn't bode well for Mike Johnson."

On that last post: I genuinely cannot think of any good-faith reason to bar international adoptions from those 39 countries. Under this new ban, consulates will refuse adoption visas for any baby from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nigeria, or any of the 39 other countries.

When your opponent takes over and starts overreaching, that is precisely when thermostatic public opinion will work to your advantage ... if you can just maintain your spine.

It is bizarre to me that the same people always telling us about "thermostatic public opinion" do not take it into account when offering strategic advice!

The public is, predictably, herding in a pro-immigration direction. Imagine if Dems had just *stayed there*, stalwart, ready to meet them.
there are pundits who will say that immigration is trump's strongest issue and that picking fights around immigration helps him on the margins. but i think this misunderstands the way public opinion works, as evidenced by trump's declining fortunes on his handling of immigration.

Indiana’s Senate has voted AGAINST the GOP gerrymander that’d have locked in a 9-0 map.

This keeps the 7-2 map in place, saving two Democratic seats heading into 2026.

The vote failed big, 19/31.

The MAJORITY of the GOP senators opposed it!
