The AP tracked down details of some of the people killed in President Trump's military strikes on drug smugglers he describes as narco-terrorists.

They were, with one exception, not high-level criminals. One was a fisherman. One was a bus driver; another a taxi driver.

I need to emphasize what I say down-thread: this is a temporary, procedural move known as an administrative stay issued in haste by Justice Jackson.

Little to nothing should be read into this ruling for how SCOTUS might ultimately rule on SNAP—either way.
BREAKING: the Supreme Court has granted Trump administration’s request.
So the justices will weigh the irreparable harm to the government of having to transfer the funds against the irreparable harm of tens of millions of people not eating

A long and comprehensive opinion, but this jumped out at me: The judge accused the Federal Protective Service—which was called in to suppress the protests—of lying under oath to slander the regular Portland police.😬

DOJ recently admitted that other FPS claims in this case were objectively false.

Looking forward to an order explaining that feeding the hungry would cause the Trump administration irreparable harm.
#BREAKING: The Trump administration is asking #SCOTUS for an immediate “administrative” stay of a Rhode Island district judge’s order that is otherwise requiring it to resume the distribution of SNAP benefits from other funding sources no later than the end of today.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court granted the Trump administration's request to enforce its discriminatory passport policy while our lawsuit makes its way through the courts.

This decision undermines the freedom of transgender, non-binary, and intersex people to have our IDs reflect who we are.

ACLU of MA has filed a brief with the SJC in support of the constitutional right to counsel.
The Court should declare the current compensation scheme for bar advocates unconstitutional, and establish an immediate, temporary rate to address this violation until the Legislature develops a solution.

I'm here to tell you how insanely hard it is to get a judge to agree that something the govt does "shocks the conscience." It's a constitutional standard generally used to insulate barbaric govt practices like life in prison for stealing $200 (a real case) bsky.app/profile/heat...
Ellis: The use of force during the Trump administration's Operation Midway Blitz "shocks the conscience."

Judge Ellis finds that the Trump administration has placed "content-based restrictions" on protesters.

"Tellingly, she says, "defendants do not deny that they would treat pro-ICE demonstrators more favorably."

Getting new details on this now:

As the arrest unfolded, teachers pleaded with the agents telling them the teacher had a work permit. The agents went into multiple rooms looking for teachers while children were present. One teacher hid with a child in her care while the agents stormed the facility.

If the sandwich don’t split, you must acquit
Defense says that the officer's testimony was "very questionable" because he said the sandwich both exploded in spray of mustard and onions and also landed in its wrapper on the ground.

The sandwich trial is both funny and frightening — a reminder that federal criminal laws give the executive tremendous power, and you want the people wielding that power to be as responsible as possible.

Weird thing about appellate litigation, apparently, is that if you’re a regular appellate lawyer you must be scrupulously careful but if you’re the nation’s most powerful appellate lawyer you can just treat oral argument like a political campaign speech ???
