Snagged a ticket to one of the steam days at Crossness pumping station in East London, and oh boy was it worth the early start. A stunning cathedral of ornate Victorian ironwork, designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette, and constructed between 1859 and 1865 purely for the purpose of erm, pumping sewage.

We desperately need housing supply. But we also desperately need interesting, innovative, well built developments and new towns. We need not only to talk about how much we're building, but what and how. When we only talk about the former we just get shoddily built, identikit houses which won't last.
