Also the paradox it talks about where once you ARE able to control it that precisely, then it's no longer the godlike being you were promising everyone that is above humanity and can solve our problems, it's your tamed pet. Interestingly this is the also problem with many brands of Christianity

One problem with the idea of reserving due process for law-abiding people is that due process is how we figure out which people are law-abiding.

Lisa: Dad, I think he's an ivory dealer! His boots are ivory, his hat is ivory, and I'm pretty sure that check is ivory.

Homer: Lisa, a guy who's got lots of ivory is less likely to hurt Stampy than a guy whose ivory supplies are low

There's a lot of stories where the premise is there's an agency that guys pay to set up a fake adventure with actors so they could feel like a hero. What if there's one that guys' wives could pay that tricks the guys into taking out the garbage or helping kids with homework while doing the adventure
I'm old enough to remember when conservatives thought participation trophies were a sign of the "pussification of America"

Do the kids today recognize the sheer volume of Vietnam movies/shows Gen X grew up with? In 1988 if you walked past any screen there was about a 40% chance it was showing a Huey helicopter landing while "Fortunate Son" blasted in the background while somebody yelled to frag the hot LZ

If they made TNG in today's woke climate it'd be so cringe!

The security chief would be a woman.

Starfleet would be vegetarian.

I even bet they'd make one of the helmsman blind! Literally flying blind in the name of "inclusion."

And one of the bridge officer's superpowers would be "feeling."

I wish people would stop looking for a "safe" celebrity to worship. Don't worship anyone. This doesn't mean you have to be cynical and assume everyone is bad either. Just praise what famous people do, not who they are. Like "love the sinner, hate the sin" but love the, uh, good deed, not the saint

Seeing a lot of takes comparing the racists turning against each other on Twitter to fighting rats and it makes me uncomfortable. Rats are intelligent and resourceful animals and in the right circumstances make for sweet and lovable pets

His keeper must have gotten drunk at a Christmas party.
Elon managed to piss off his neo nazi base yesterday for saying the US needs high skill immigrants in tech to fuel his businesses. Cue a massive racist meltdown against Indians.

The one thing I wish every young person knew is that everything you're doing with family now (the holiday traditions, etc) there is going to be a last time you ever do it, and you won't know it's the last time when it happens. It will sneak up on you, and sooner than you think.

Wonderful day ahead for 🇫🇷. Notre Dame will reopen on time, 5 years after it was gutted by fire. I was lucky enough to have visited the inside this week. It is stunning, the blanched stonework of the vaults and pillars as they would have been in medieval times

Years later the “good witch” uses Dorothy to destabilize the political climate of Oz to come out on top. Last witch standing wins. Dorothy could have clicked her heels to go home as soon as she got them. The “good witch” knew it, but she had rivals to get rid of 1st.

One of our dogs is so dumb every time anything happens that startles her, like a broom falls over, she freaks out and blames the other dog and growls and runs at her aggressively. I think this is a metaphor for politics
