Substack discourse again so I am moved to reiterate:
getting off Substack is one of THE most straightforward and effective ways to get fascist stink off your work. If you choose not to do it because it seems too hard, then I do not trust you to do literally anything in the face of fascism.

I don't want to hear "Happy Pride" from these corporations.

I want to hear, "We have fixed all the homophobic & transphobic garbage happening; everyone is safe now and healthcare is free. And also all the queer shows you want to watch on other streaming platforms are now available to you."

Autism didn’t make them do it. Mental illness didn’t, either. This personal piece from The Big Picture cuts through the excuses and names the real issue: some people are just hateful, and we need to stop giving them cover.
Neither Neurodivergence Nor Mental Illness Made Them Bigots—They're Just Awful People
It's hard to admit your heroes are jerks, but the mentally ill and neurodivergent shouldn't be collateral damage.

Swearing is linked with increased pain tolerance and strength
The science behind swearing and its impact on pain and strength is complex, but research has shown that it is linked with a number of positive effects.

This will be, um, a challenge for antivaxx universe, especially in jurisdictions that want to ban mRNA vaccines.
mRNA vaccines show promise in pancreatic cancer in early trial
Fewer than 13% of people live more than five years after diagnosis. In a small trial, half of the participants mounted a lasting immune response against their cancer cells.

When Substack first started, they invited marginalized people to start accounts there, and once they did the work of building substack's name recognition, they paid alt right people to move to substack.

they kept quiet, introduced Notes while people left twitter, but they hadn't changed.
I don't want to see another post calling it "nagging" when people ask y'all to get away from Substack. They happily tolerate this Nazi shit. If you don't have paid subscribers, you have MANY choices of newsletter services. If you have paid subscribers, talk to your peers who have moved elsewhere.
The neo-Nazi Active Club movement has launched a Substack newsletter, where they share essays on white nationalism 3.0, modern fascism, and fight culture.

Be safe, but be out there. We are not alone. I think that’s a key part of what’s next.

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come.

‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair.

Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

Sometimes I feel very small, tired, and unsure. And then I remember that we are near midwinter.

And I do as generations have done before me: light a candle, wrap up in a blanket, and make a hot beverage filled with spices.

The light will return soon.

Recent research shows that an ordinary cup of tea is effective at alleviating anxiety & lifting mood.

The antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) along with the amino acid L-theanine & caffeine acting together actually improve mental health & memory.

It's not just an old wive's tale, it works.

what we are not gonna do is give in to despair like they want us to

what we are not gonna do is give up when the race isn’t even over

we are in this together, and we are not. giving. up.
