I like being an uncle for the holidays because: Mom and dad are responsible, and will discipline you. Grandpa and Grandma are indulgent, and will coddle you. But the uncle... the uncle is unpredictable. The niece and nephew cannot know what the uncle will do, because the soul of the uncle is CHAOS

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

I had mixed feelings about the first season of Foundation, quite liked the second season, but the third season is phenomenal. That last scene alone has got me hyped for season 4!

Here we see the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) detector.
Most recently upgraded in 2024, it searches for dark-matter signatures from cosmic rays, #antimatter, and missing matter from its position on the exterior of the International Space Station.

I have literally been left speechless by the soundtrack for Europa Universalis V, perhaps the biggest surprise of the game's release for me. It feels like Håkan Glänte is possessed by the spirit of baroque composers at times.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

One of the most iconic videos I’ve ever filmed—stepping outside our cabin in Venetie, Alaska and seeing an auroral substorm occurring directly overhead. This was a legendary view.

The “fact” that we swallow 8 spiders a year in our sleep likely originated in a 1993 article about how readily people accept information they read online.

The author noted a fictional statistic about spiders as a wild example, only to watch it quickly spread on the internet.
