Buffy is so old there were only 103 named elements, we’re at 118 now.

(Yes I pause every show that has a periodic table to see if its period accurate)

Did you know that we (in the US) have unnecessarily large and expensive fire engines? With a bit of willpower, we could have smaller engines that responded faster and improved safety for bikes, pedestrians and drivers all while improving fire response & saving money.

So lovely to see Mac McCaughan join @gangoffour.bsky.social at the @catscradlenc.bsky.social last night. Jim Wilbur was at the show, too! Gang of Four is as pertinent and vibrant as they've ever been.

And now, a note on Bill Owens who, until this past week, was the executive producer of 60 Minutes.

We’ll be back next week with another edition of 60 Minutes.

I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012.

Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place.

A thread.

Decivilization wasn't mentioned after school shootings. Nor after the Dec 6 attack on the Capitol. Nor the genocide in Gaza. Only when some rich white dude gets shot.
Meanwhile the Atlantic published a whole thing about "decivilization" today: “The line between a normal, functioning society and catastrophic decivilization can be crossed with a single act of mayhem.” (they mean, of course, the CEO, not the genocide)
96% of children in Gaza feel that their death is imminent and almost half want to die as a result of trauma. 92% of the children in the survey were “not accepting of reality”, 79% suffer from nightmares and 73% exhibit symptoms of aggression.

That a murder in the street is shocking is self evident. But desperate people do desperate things. This state of affairs is sad and dire but it wasn’t the people who deserve to be cared for by the country that skims their paycheck instead of milked by big business who brought it to this pass. 3/3

Several people, in response to my NY Times essay, have said that women couldn't go into space because we lacked the technology for them to pee in space.
