Today's the feast day of St Margaret of Scotland, a Saxon noble, who married King Malcolm III in 1070 and ruled here for 23 years

Canonised in 1250, depictions of this medieval saint are found across Scotland, such as this beautiful example by Herbert Hendrie in Clackmannan Kirk #StainedGlassSunday

In a short article for 'The Conversation' historian Rachel Delman explores some of the legacies of Medieval women that are still extant on these islands today

She includes Edinburgh's Magdalen Chapel and the Trinity Apse as examples

Its handsome septagonal chancel ceiling was described as "unique" in the sales brochure, but reports on the planning application describe the building, less than a year later, as "derelict" and in "disrepair".

Plans have been submitted to demolish East Kilbride's South Parish Church in order to build housing

Designed by architect Robert WKC Rogerson and opened in 1964, the unlisted church closed last year and was marketed for sale by the Church of Scotland in January

New research emerges about final hours of Lt Robin Tudsbery, who was killed in action in April 1945 and whose parents built the beautiful Robin Chapel in Edinburgh in his memory

A worthy #Woodensday example too of Georgian timberwork pews and U plan gallery. The wooden font is simple but elegant.

Both Southend and Saddell are part of the united South Kintyre Parishes group, along with Campbeltown.

Despite a fairly simple exterior, #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, Southend Parish Church on Kintyre has some spectacular stained glass #WindowsOnWednesday by Ballantine & Son and Gordon Webster. They were installed by Ina Campbell, Dowager Duchess of Argyll, to commemorate Queen Victoria.

The Kintyre peninsular is home to our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, Southend Parish. The church was built in 1774 and is the third building on the site. Designed by mason James Stirling, it is a simple harled kirk.

Bill Walker was an elder at Montrose for 50 years when he "retired" and now creates the beautiful flower arrangements that add a blaze of colour to the sanctuary each week.

It is always a rare treat to capture the installation of fragile floral displays and the local artists who create them!

A window, showing the woman from Mark's Gospel with a haemorrhage touching Jesus` cloak, was the inspiration for the Healing Garden, created in 2024, as a quiet, community green space for prayer and therapeutic gardening.

In Strathpeffer, St Anne's Episcopal, our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek has an interesting interior and stained glass windows by J. Powell & Sons (1891), T.C. Curtis, Ward and Hughes (1899-1900) and Heaton Butler for #WindowsOnWednesDay.

The first scientific evidence corroborating the medieval presence of the "Black Death" in Edinburgh has been identified in DNA present in the plaque on the teeth of a skeleton unearthed during archaeological excavations under St Giles Cathedral in 1981.

Designed by Inverness architect John Robertson as a memorial to Anne, this rectangular church with its distinctive pencil-shaped bell tower was constructed between 1890 and 1892 with the chancel added in 1899.

The discovery of sulphurous springs and subsequent arrival of the railways, in Victorian times, led to Strathpeffer's large influx of tourists. There was an obvious need for our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, St Anne's. Land was donated by Anne, Duchess of Sutherland and Countess of Cromartie.

"Church on the market"

Built in 1839 and known locally as the "Church on the Green", Girvan South Parish Church has been listed for sale as part of the Church of Scotland's attempts to reduce its nationwide property holdings.
