Hoy estaba escuchando a los Beatles y me pregunté qué diría John Lennon sobre el cambio climático y las COP de Naciones Unidas... Seguramente más que decir, haría algo... Una canción como mínimo.

COP29 has concluded with - as usual - more than we had before and less than what we needed.

The financing plan is voluntary and in the past, wealthy countries have under contributed.

The financing plan, which calls for $300 billion per year in support for developing nations, was immediately assailed as inadequate by a string of delegates.

Good time to remind people what a journalist is/isn't. A journalist:
- has to do reporting of some kind (data, archival, source-based)
- has to fact-check that reporting
- is held to a higher legal standard than op-eds, essayists, commentators (generally can't share an opinion w/o documentation)
Made my first starter pack! These are the climate journalists I know and love and highly recommend following on BlueSky so far. Please tell me who I'm missing (and apologies in advance if I've missed you, I swear it's not intentional!)

The first scientific paper highlighting the observed rise in global temperatures was in 1938.

By me!

And I also linked the observed warming to the rise in CO2 levels in the atmosphere, building on the earlier theoretical work.

We have known all this for soooo long.

In September 1933, American meteorologist Joseph Kincer asked a simple question: is the climate changing?

So began the effort to understand the scope of humanity’s interference with the climate.
