Austrian has gotten so expensive that airport prices start to seem absolutely normal to me. (written while sipping my €6 cappuccino in Frankfurt)

I'm currently at the wonderful @oegpjuwis.bsky.social #writingretreat, working on a grant proposal. Can we please arrange for all our academic events to have emotional support cats (and goats, dogs, and pigs)?

But a university is a community that thrives on differences.

Our diverse perspectives are what make it possible for us to know the world, together.

#PsychSciSky, I'm super curious. Lots of us are using SEM (or other complex stats methods) on a regular basis. Did your psych degree give you the confidence to run and interpret them? Or did you get those skills elsewhere? And if so, where.
I would be VERY leery of any such things. SEM is tricky, built on lots of assumptions, and should probably only be done by experts.

I was a stat consultant for 25 years and I wouldn't do it.

I also don't know any friendly, low key books on doing surgery.

Psych peeps: do you know of any super low-key, intuitive (think Andy Field) intros to structural equation modeling (ideally including examples in R/JASP/Jamovi)? I'm looking for books/videos that ideally also showcase different use cases. #PsychSciSky #SEM #statistics

Optimist: "the cup is half full"

Pessimist: "the cup is half empty"

Social & personality psychologist: “We developed the one-item CUP optimism scale and plotted it against the Big Five, with 300 UG students participating for course credit. Our results are generalisable to all people, everywhere.”
Optimist: "the cup is half full"

Pessimist: "the cup is half empty"

Conversation analyst: the action accomplished by the turn in which either phrase is formulated, its sequential position, & its accompanying embodied conduct, will determine whether I want to spend more time with you :-)

This obsession is unhealthy. Our horizons are fine. Also social media, for most, is not a job. It is not school. It is socializing. And it’s fine to say “I don’t want to hang out with Nazis, homophobes, transphobes etc in my free time.”
Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?
