This is funny because the scientists I follow are like "this is what we were already planning but at slightly larger power". And the left-leaning political reporters I follow are all like "nuke bombs and accidents!!!". I wish some progressives weren't so knee jerk around nuclear power.

At the ANS winter meeting, mostly for the rad protection and shielding technical sessions. First plenary session had Raphael Grossi, who is awesome.
Also, first morning and I already have half an idea for a project proposal. Glad I came!

The "nonfiction" list on Kobo's deals page currently includes nonfiction, fiction novels, and at least one anthology of post-apocalyptic short stories. Is Kobo telling me something?

Not unsurprised. There's a few of these companies that just don't have enough financial backing to get through the whole process. There's got to be some consolidation as we go to SMRs. I hope somebody actually builds at Chalk River though - we have a good site for it!

I have one maple tree that tends to lose all it's leaves within 2 days. I raked twice in the past 24 hours and it's still a mess. I feel like I need to use this as a neutron multiplication metaphor in my next technical meeting, but it's not quite gelling yet.

I need Pablo Rodriguez to vote with the conservatives next week. The world keeps being wacky, it might as well be funny as well.

My genZ coworker tells me that ellipses feel passive aggressive so now I need to be careful. On the other side, my husband sends messages with semicolons instead which he swears are informal. Punctuation divides us. But hey, science geekery unites us!

I really hope a strike can be avoided, in part because my partner is due to travel soon. But the ability to strike is the only real power employees have. AC is basically arguing that because some of the inconvenienced are the public, workers rights should be ignored.

Government must block Air Canada pilots from striking if deal can't be reached, CEO says | CBC News
Air Canada said Thursday the federal government will need to step in and order binding arbitration if the airline can't reach a deal with the pilots' union, warning at least 110,000 travellers would have their plans upset every day if a strike began.

Interesting data on automation bias. I don't know medical all that well, but from my field, I feel like "AI" will be very useful in some circumstances but that we have no idea how to interact with it yet.
“When the AI provided an incorrect result, researchers found inexperienced and moderately experienced radiologists dropped their cancer-detecting accuracy from around 80% to about 22%. Very experienced radiologists’ accuracy dropped from nearly 80% to 45%.”
