There should also be a a career path for prosecutors that's solely about police oversight, to remove the incentive to handle the police with kid gloves because you need their cooperation to prosecute your other cases.

Everyone posting about federal workers is saying some variation of "I spoke to all my friends who are federal workers and they're fucking incandescent that the Democrats put them through 40 days of hell to cave for literally nothing, they wanted the Dems to see this through".

I guess I need to add that pundits have to get out of a normal democracy mindset too.

It’s been a decade of democratic backsliding, and nearly a year of rapid descent. Writing as if it’s 2013 or 1995 is out of touch. Either ”I have my head in the sand” or “I like this but won’t say so directly.”

Speaking of, call me crazy but maybe the fact that Schumer just admitted to voting for Cuomo instead of his own party's nominee for NYC mayor is feeding into the perception that this was an arranged vote.

I mean I don't think it was 100% unavoidable. If Senate Dems had gone full scorched earth obstructionist on day one I think that would've been sufficient fight energy for the electorate.

But it's certainly unavoidable at this point.

my approach to political analysis is to listen to what political operators are saying, what issues they focus on, and take it seriously. it’s not particularly tough or sophisticated but it does seem to get to the right answer more often than not.
