A graphic consequence of the mass birdfeeding industry. Sights like this were virtually unknown before aggressive marketing for more year-round feeding everywhere. Now feeders are main hotspots of disease transmission that causes Chaffinches to lose their legs. If a pesticide did this, we’d ban it.
I spotted this Chaffinch under the feeders at Carsington Water. Such a perky little chap but obviously severely impacted by the virus that can affect bird's legs & feet. There was a 2nd bird that was less impacted. And of course, Willow Tits visit the feeders.
